Forgiveness

A/N: I'm BAAAACK! Oh, and if you're wondering, this fic actually has some truth in it. Translation: in some abstract way, this story is true. Seriously abstract. And I am working on all the other fics...so be patient! Writer's Block is a nasty little this I am stuck in!

'They hate me.'
That was all the boy could think of. And it was true. They wished he was dead, or at least out of their way permanently. And the one thing he wished for so much, would never be given to him.
Forgiveness.
He wanted their forgiveness. Even though that seemed too much to ask, after all that he had done. Who he'd been.
'And to them, who I still am. To them, I haven't changed.'
If one of them, just one, offered him their trust, it would mean everything.
But that was impossible.
They might pretend. They might use his situation for their own uses. But no, would the Digidestined sink that low?
'Of course they would. I sunk lower, and I AM a Digidestined. Though I don't deserve to be.'
He'd saved Cody from Thunderballmon. He and Stingmon.
The younger boy had thanked him politely, and then walked away with his Digimon.
It was obvious what he'd been thinking. He would have rather been killed honorably in battle then have been saved by him. He wasn't the slightest bit grateful, more like repulsed.
And once the others had come......that had hurt even more.
Tai had glared at him in hatred, while the rest of the new Digidestined fussed over Cody. And the protective arm Yolei had put around the boy...
They hated him.
Reality finally returned. He'd lost himself, staring at the sunset. He was now very aware that the streets were now deserted. He was alone.
'As always.'
The faint, steady rhythm of footsteps approached.
'Or maybe not always.' He thought wryly, though his mask of a face remained as emotionless as ever.
"Hey, Ken?" a boy's voice asked uncertainly. Ken did not turn his head, but out of the corner of his eye he saw the speaker.
It was the last person he expected to see.
'Him?! Out of all of them, him? What kind of a cruel trick is this?'
"Hello, Davis." He replied without the slightest hint of emotion. His tone crushed whatever courage the other boy had possessed.
'Damn! I didn't want to scare him...'
Davis stood there, uncertain of what to do.
'What does he want?'
Something flickered in Davis' eyes. Determination.
"Look, I'd like to thank you for saving Cody."
'I expected this.'
"And," he narrowed his eyes with an unreadable expression "I want to tell you something."
Ken turned his head to him questioningly. What was he getting at?
"I forgive you."
Ken's emotionless face was replaced with a look of disbelief. No. He hadn't just said that. He couldn't have.
"What?" was all he managed to say. Davis smiled a bit.
"Just what I said. And I want you to know, no matter what the others say, that I believe you. And that you'll always have me on your side. Regardless what Tai, Kari, Yolei, or any of the others say."
Ken just stared, unable to say anything.
Davis grinned a bit, then turned around, and began walking away.
"Davis!" Ken called to him. The boy stopped, and turned around, looking puzzled.
"Thank you."
Davis grinned. "You're welcome, Ken."
