Kurt sat with his five year old daughter as she colored a picture she claimed was for Aunt Rachel. Kurt held her on his lap as he watched her color, she started to giggle and Kurt couldn't help but smile, he didn't know what she was thinking about in her head, but her giggle was one of his favorite sounds. The day seemed to be perfect, he didn't think of anything that could go wrong. He spent the day with his beautiful daughter, and his wonderful husband would be home any minute, and that made him happier than anything else.
The door closed and Lily shot up out of Kurt's lap,"Papa!" She yelled running down the stairs to greet her father. Kurt chuckled as he followed behind her. Lily jummped onto Blaine and he lifted her up and held her, resting her on his hip. Kurt's heart normally melted at the sight of this, but today was different. Something was wrong, he could see it in Blaine's eyes, they weren't full of joy like they normally were.
"Hi baby girl." Blaine said, Kurt could sense the fake happiness in his voice. Blaine kissed her head and she laughed loudly.
"Lily, why don't you go pick out a movie we can watch?" Kurt suggested. He knew something was wrong with Blaine, he also knew he wouldn't say anything infront of Lily. They had Monday family movie nights weekly, and he knew pick a movie was a long task, so he would have enough time to talk to Blaine alone.
"Ok!" Lily squeaked leaping from Blaine's arms. Her brown braid flew behind her as she galloped out of the room.
Kurt looked back to Blaine to see his eyes went from joyless to miserable in the few seconds it took Lily to leave the room. It looked as if tears were threatening to spill. Kurt didn't think he'd ever seen Blaine look so miserable, so helpless, so small. He slowly grabbed Blaine's hand, and intertwined their fingers.
"Honey, what's wrong?" Blaine seemed to be in his own little world, he tried his hardest to not meet Kurt's eyes.
"I grabbed the mail today and saw a letter addressed to me, so I opened it." Blaine made a coughing nosie as he stifled back tears. He slowly handed Kurt the letter.
Blaine Devon Anderson, greetings, you are hereby ordered for induction into the Armed Forces of the United States... It went on explaining more, but Kurt couldn't bring himself to read it. He dropped the letter onto the floor and hugged Blaine tightly.
He mummbled inadiabule words as he started to cry into Blaine's shoulder. He could feel Blaine drop his head and start to cry onto his shoulder. He never wanted to move, he wanted to stay with Blaine forever, just like this. He knew they couldn't though. He knew Blaine would end up leaving, he would have to stay here, keeping a smile on for his baby girl. His baby girl, she'd be without her Papa, for who knows how long. He realized he was going to be the one who had to be strong, he had to be there for his daughter, and for his husband. He knew he had to stop crying, he should be comforting Blaine, he just didn't know how.
"Daddy, Papa! I found a movie." Kurt quickly wipped tears away and responded back.
"Ok sweetie, just set it by the DVD player. If you wash your hands after that you can help me make dinner." Kurt took a step back from Blaine, his eyes were red, and he looked as if he had lost all hope. Kurt wrapped an arm around his waist and walked him to their bedroom. He sat down on the bed and Blaine sat down next to him. "You wanna stay in here until dinner?" Kurt asked him. Blaine couldn't do anything but nod. Kurt kissed his forehead and squeezed his hand lightly before he walked out from the room.
