A/N: My first Hunger Games fic that's based on the characters! Whoo! Requested by PiperElizabethMcLean.

First time losing.

It was early morning. The sun was seeping through the half-closed windows. They didn't close it entirely, claustrophobia being too much to bare at times. Yes, the Capitol had fallen, yes there were no more Hunger Games… but the permanent fear was there. They still waited for someone to charge at them around every corner, knives at the ready, hands suffocating them, squeezing the last remaining bit of air from their lungs…

Katniss Everdeen sat up. She hadn't been sleeping, an eternal nightmare hadn't bothered her, no, this was a new dream. If it was a nightmare or a dream come true she didn't know. Only days prior they had learned there was life inside of her. Her system had been off. Vomiting in the morning, wishing for the oddest food, sometimes feverish. Peeta had become worried, insisting they call her mother. The latter had immediately boarded a train, coming to a place she so loathed.

The memories of Prim and her father still burned. There was a time when they couldn't deal with it, but now they could. In a manner. Katniss couldn't stand the sight of goats.

There was an odd feeling in her stomach. It was as if she had an upset stomach, without the pains or need for a toilet. Her hands flew to her tummy. She didn't know what to think. She had always thought she didn't want children – in case of the Hunger Games. And when she was crowned a victor, she knew she couldn't have children. Because of her actions, she knew they would be forced into the games.

But when she fell pregnant, there were no more games. So why should she worry? She didn't understand her worry.

"Peeta!" She yelled, terrified. Thundering steps sounded up the stairs. Moments later he stuck his head through the door. He took one look at her before folding her in his embrace.

"What is it? Nightmares?"

"No. It's it."

"It has a name. It's the baby. Now tell me what happened."

"It… he… moved…"

"And this your reaction?"

"Peeta…"

"There is nothing to fear, Katniss." He said in a soothing tone. "Nothing at all. Snow's dead. Coin's dead. The games…"

"But they'll still know." She cut across him. "We have to tell them. I don't want them to have a monster for a mother."

"Monster, you say?" He rocked her back and forth. "I don't see a monster. I see a fighter. You are a survivor, of the cruellest games in existence. You took it on to save your sister."

"Only to be the cause of her death."

"Coin did that."

"Were it not for me, she wouldn't be dead."

"You gave her a longer time here, Katniss. Otherwise she would've been dead two years prior."

"But…"

"No. Be positive, will you? We created that." He put a hand carefully on her bulging stomach. "And it, he or she will know how their parents fought. How their mother was the face of rebellion. How she saved Panem."

"We. Not me. We were a sort of army."

He smiled to himself, seeing the change in her train of thought.

She sighed. "I'm not going to win, am I?"

"I'd say this would be the first time you lose." He chuckled.
