"Papa! Paapaa!" Maka's shrill voice rang through the apartment and Spirit's face cracked into a smile. He stepped out of his and Kami's room and Maka flung her small self against his legs, nearly knocking the man down. He laughed, scooping her up and rubbed his nose against hers.

"Papa! Look what Mama bought me!" Reaching into the pocket of her jumper Maka pulled out a double handful of brightly colored hair bands. "Mama said I could put them in my hair and her hair!" Maka giggled, looking sideways at him, "and Mama said I could put them in your hair too!"

"Did she now, Maka?" Spirit asked, settling her on his hip as he walked back towards the kitchen and his wife. "Kami, Maka said that you said she could use me like a giant doll."

"Papa's a giant doll! Imma make his hair all pretty!" Maka crowed out and Spirit couldn't help but laugh.

Kami turned to face Spirit, her face a cute little pout that Spirit never could say no to as she clasped her hands together in front of her. "Come on, Spirit, little Maka just wants some quality time with her Papa. If you let her do your hair now, I'll let you do something for me tonight." The little wink that Kami added to the end of that statement was enough to send Spirit into the other room, chuckling.

He sat Maka down on the floor and sat cross legged beside her. "Alright, Maka. Do you have a brush? Mama should have shown you that you have to use a brush to do your hair."

Maka nodded, darting to her feet and running to her room. She came back with a large, soft bristled brush, it looked almost like one of her doll brushes and Spirit laughed, shaking his head. Maka danced around behind him, pulling gently on his hair as she ran the brush through it.

"Papa! You have to hold these so they don't get tangled up, ok? If they get tangled up Mama will have to untangle them and she doesn't like to do that so we have to make sure they don't get tangled up!" Maka dropped a handful of brightly colored hair ties over his shoulder and Spirit just chuckled, gathering them up and threading them across his fingers.

He winced a little when Maka put the first hair tie in his hair. She grabbed his hand and made him touch it. "I put a special one in, Papa! It's my favorite one so you have to be careful with it, ok?"

Spirit nodded as Maka came around to look him in the eyes, her little face solemn. "You have to promise me, Papa. It only works if you promise me."

"Alright, Maka. I promise that I will be super careful with your favorite hair tie." Spirit tried to keep his face as straight as possible.

"Thank you, Papa!" Maka screeched, throwing her arms around his neck before sitting down in his lap and tugging on his hair. "Imma put another hair tie here!" She rummaged around in her jumper's pocket before pulling out a green one. "It's the same as my eyes and your eyes and Mama's eyes! Isn't it just the most beautifulest color?!"

"Of course it is, my little Maka." Spirit said, smiling, Kami's promise to him earlier already forgotten as he let Maka play with his hair. This went on for the next half hour before Maka finally got all the hair ties in his hair that she wanted and relaxed in his lap, playing with the most recent hair tie she had put in, telling him all about the day that she and Mama had had, and how much fun it had been and how she wished that he could've been there with them instead of stuck at work.

"I wish I could have been there today too, Maka." Spirit said quietly as the little girl fell asleep. "I always want to be there for you and Mama. I love you more than anything."

"I… know… Papa…" The little girl said, fighting sleep, and losing. Spirit smiled, picking up the most important thing in his life beside his wife and carried her to bed.
