Author's Notes: This is a short and self-indulgent piece I wrote after spending three hourse listening to podcasts and realizing that I had skipped two episodes. It's also related to an as-yet-unposted fic I'm writing that's much longer which goes into more detail on how this partnership came to be.
First Order soldiers were not allowed to listen to holo-casts, which made Finn all the more eager to get his hands on a comm device.
"Hey, Ren...Ren. How do I get Force Talk on this?" Finn asks, catching up to Kylo's quick stride.
"What are you talking about? Put that away, we've got more important things to do."
Finn stops, narrowing his eyes at Kylo's back.
"In case you've forgotten, Ren, I don't work for you anymore. Now tell me how this works."
Kylo freezes, sighing huffily, and turning around with obvious annoyance.
"You press this button," he speaks in a clipped tone, grabbing the comm from Finn as he demonstrates, "and slide this one. There, all the holo-casts you want."
They glare at each other, but briefly, and without the intense hatred that plagued their first few weeks of training together. Finn shakes his head and turns up the volume on the comm.
"So, what exactly is the general concept of Force-sensitivity outside of the Force? I mean, if you're not on either the so-called 'dark' or 'light' sides, then how do you train yourself? Traditional Jedi texts that have been salvaged by a few brave souls, some say Resistance fighters, make numerous references to restraint, control, and stability. Sith ideas, on the other hand, which have largely been spread by word of mouth, speak of letting loose, taking power, and using it as one sees fit.
