Ever since I was a little girl I have always used to go to my grandparents' place with every chance I got. It was always a lot of fun since I was living in the city, and I still am, so a natural environment did me good. I always had a lot of fun especially in winter when everything was covered in snow or when my cousins and their friends took me with them when they were exploring the forest.
Now that I have grown up it seems a little boring. All the kids left are my 8 year old cousins and they aren't much of fun to me so I talk with my grandmother a lot. I love her stories the most, in winter we used to stay near the fire drinking hot chocolate .She used to tell me a lot of legends from her village .
The one I love the most is about spirits and snakes; the story goes like this:
" In a forgotten time of our existence spirits used to guide people to their destiny, they have to face many hardships along the way but the 3 sisters of fate also called 'Iele' in our village guide us to the right path. They sing for us at midnight near the forest announcing the winds of change. Many have tried to see them but they were punished for their insolence by the three sisters, the human who dared to cross path with the sisters will be left without their sight or misfortune will befall them. The only creatures who were allowed to see their beauty were the snakes and they were the fortunate ones who got a blessed gift from the sisters. Once every 7 hundred years one of the royal snakes will become human.
However, for that to become so they have to pass many tests among their kind; there will be a fight among all the snakes in the region. From the venom lost in fight a stone will be forged by the sister who will give the winner snake the appearance of a human."
I can't remember why I went to my grandmother's place a week before Halloween but I remember that on the Halloween day I went to the forest near the house to search for my cat and I stumbled on snake nest full of small snakes and there I met a sweet boy named Alistair.
¥ He told me the same legend as my grandmother and asked me if I knew it and if I believed if it was true. He looked very pleased when I told him I knew it and I believed it was true and that I loved snakes a lot.
‡ He said that he wanted to spend more time with me that he had a lot of things he wanted to show me tonight if only I wished to accompany him. I didn't want to go but somehow my body moved on its own and I followed him deep within the forest.
"Today will bring great fortune to you Feya, today marks the 7 hundredth year since I was made and the three sisters of fate chose me to befall their gift to you. You will become one of them if only you are worthy enough or you will die; so chose wisely little human I am quite found of you and so if you shall fail I requested guardianship of your soul."
Ω I wanted to run, to scream but I couldn't; my body was frozen in time. His yellow eyes kept me trapped on the spot. I can't remember any choice or answer I gave at that time but now I'm trapped in a hollow existence with a snake in my hand to guide the misfortunate souls of the damned through the hell gates.
If I could only turn back time I would choose to stay as far away from that damned forest as long as I lived since now all I can feel is only excruciating pain.
