Temptations
Book I: Newcomers
Chapter 1. The Watchful Eyes.
My eyes fluttered, and my heart was racing when I jolted upright in my bed. Another nightmare…. I'm never going to get enough sleep before school starts again. I sat there on my bed for a moment, thinking once again about what my 8th grade year will be like. I heard the sound of a truck being unloaded outside. I got up and staggered to my small window and tried to focus my eyes on the neighbors' house. Someone new had come to Grant Town. I wonder who they could be. I thought about going over and greeting them later on today, but then I remembered what happens to me when I meet new people. I always end up stuttering while trying to make casual conversation with them, and then there's always awkward silence. I shrugged that feeling off and went back to bed. But then my brain wandered off into its own fantasy, as usual. But this time it was different. I day-dreamed of the new neighbors. I quickly thought about how there might be a boy about my age who'd be willing to get to know me and maybe there could be something between us. I didn't want to imagine this any longer, it was useless. And impossible. None of the guys I knew never gave me a second glance. So why would it be any different with a newcomer? There was also the fact that I don't even know if there is a boy about my age over there, and I don't really want to find out either. My mind drifted off to sleep after about an hour of thinking of the impossible. I was in a deep sleep, so no dreams awakened me.
I woke up feeling drowsy this morning. I'm glad it's the weekend; I couldn't last one more long dreadful day at school. Nothing new ever happened there. I heard men shouting outside my window, probably the movers moving furniture into the house. I yawned and stretched and decided to take a look outside my window. Once my eyes focused, I saw a few of my friends, David, Conner, Jeremy, and Mitch all talking to a boy that I've never seen before. He had a very deep tan, and long shiny black hair. He was pretty muscular, and had brown eyes that reminded me of melted milk chocolate. He was very handsome. I stared out the window with a smile on my face for a few minutes, and then I got curious. I opened my window just a little bit so I could hear what they were talking about.
"- what's your name again?" Conner asked him.
"CJ. Just moved here from Pennsylvania." He said is a very husky voice.
The boys decided to continue talking, but I was only focused on CJ. Then that's when I promised myself that I'd get to know him, whether he liked it or not. I stepped back from my window and went over to my computer and turned it on.
