Perfect Moments
People speak of a perfect moment. One point in time when everything falls into place, and you are the happiest you ever thought imaginable. Once, John Paul Hobbs-McQueen might have believed them, but this day, his wedding day, had changed that. This wedding day had had more perfect moments than he had ever though imaginable. The moment when he had walked through those registry office doors, and had first seen Kieron standing, waiting for him. He had a slight grin on his face, and love in his eyes, and John Paul couldn't help but notice how well his suit fitted. As he walked towards the man he was about to commit the rest of his life to, he never thought he could feel more blissfully happy than this.
But then came the moment when Kieron had read him his vows, staring deep into his eyes, without once needing to look down at his piece of paper. Vows of love, and devotion and hope. Vows that caused John Paul's eyes to mist up. And the moment when, whilst John Paul was reading his vows, he had seen a single tear, a tear of love and happiness, sliding down Kieron's cheek. A tear he wanted to kiss away, but he couldn't, not yet.
And then came the final moment of the service, when they kissed. Kieron was an amazing kisser, but that kiss surpassed all of John Paul's expectations, it made his spine tingle, and the hairs on the back of his neck stand on end. In that moment, his mind had no thoughts. He needed none; he was completely focused on enjoying that one perfect kiss, and yet another perfect moment.
And now, their first dance, they were swaying slowly in time to Aerosmith's "I don't want to miss a thing". It was a sappy song, eventually settled on one drunken evening less than a week previously, after Myra had threatened to choose the song for them if they didn't hurry up and pick one. But the music didn't matter; all that mattered that he was slow dancing, with his husband, Kieron Hobbs-McQueen, on their wedding day. He was the joint-happiest man alive, along with the man whose arms were around his waist, and he was going to spend the rest of his life happy with this man, his perfect man.
John Paul didn't want the dance to end, didn't want this perfect moment to end, but, as he looked up at Kieron, he knew there would be many more to come.
"I love you, Kieron Hobbs-McQueen."
There eyes locked, and John Paul knew the only thing keeping him upright was Kieron's strong arms, wrapped around his waist.
"I love you, too, John Paul Hobbs-McQueen" replied Kieron, sporting a wide grin, and the two men melted together into another perfect kiss.
