Will graham had always wondered what became of Hannibal Lecter. He had followed the news. He had seen that Clarice Starling was believed to have run off with him.
That was something he thought he would never see. Hannibal didn't seem like the relationship type. He didn't know what Clarice saw in the killer.
During his free he often sat in the dark of his bedroom wondering about them. Did they have any kids? Where they still married? Were they killing together?
Will had a hard time with the thought of Hannibal settling down and raising a family. He knew a true killer would never stop.
He didn't know why he was so obsessed with Lecter. It was almost as if he had some kind of connection with the doctor. Sometimes he would wake up in the middle of the night gasping for air and Lecter would be the only thing on his mind.
He no longer had his wife to keep his mind off it. She had left him. She just couldn't take it anymore. His son was grown. He didn't have him to take his mind off it anymore.
In the back of his head Will felt like he knew where Hannibal was. It was like he just couldn't remember. It was like it was a word on the tip of his tongue that he just couldn't remember. He often spent hours going over the international news looking for something. He just couldn't put Hannibal behind him.
His break came many years later. He was sitting on his computer staring the news paper not really reading. His eyes were glancing over the current pictures. Suddenly his eyes jerked to a picture he had already looked at a few times. He didn't know how he had missed it.
"Lecter," he whispered to himself.
He was much older but Will would know him anywhere. There was just something about his eyes. Something that drew Will in. He clicked on the picture and was transferred to a short story. It was only a couple of sentences.
A local doctor in Benalto, Alberta, Canada was given a good samaritan award for his wonderful work at the Community Medical center. Dr. Mentol,(a loving husband, father, and soon to be grandfather), has helped raise more than one hundred thousand dollars for the hospital's mental health department. He is a great asset to this community and we are glad to have him.
That was it. Hannibal was living in Canada with his family. He had a family. That was so hard for Will to picture. Grandchild?
He didn't know how long he sat at his computer staring at the picture. He had a couple of choices. He could ignore this new information. He could go to the F.B.I or he could go after him all by himself.
What good would going after him do? Would he be able to bring him in? He knew that the chances of that were slim. There was a bigger chance he would end up dead. He knew he had to do something. He just couldn't sit on that information. He would be damned if he was going to the F.B.I. He wanted to see Lecter himself. For some reason he had a strong pull to see him. He wanted to take the bastard down himself.
------------
Back in Canada the Mentol family was perpared for the move. Clarice didn't want to go. Hannibal didn't really want to go himself but he knew they didn't have a choice. The police hadn't bothered them but there was always a chance they would catch on. He didn't want to put his family at risk. Moving them was the best option.
As Hannibal acquired a home in France and settled their bills and accounts in Canada he couldn't help but feel something was going to happen. They had planned to move a month after David was born. Hannibal was trying to push for a date closer than that. He couldn't explain it but he had voice in his head screaming to get out and to get out fast.
Clarice and Mischa were worried by Hannibal's sudden change of pace. He couldn't explain his feelings to wife and child and that worried them even more. Hannibal just knew something was going to happen and he wanted to be long gone when it happened.
