These are not my characters; they are J.K. Rowling's brainchild and every day I wish that I was her.
Hope you like, this one was one of my firsts, so I feel it's a little...not as strong? Oh who knows, let me hear it from you.
Malfoy's Don't Dance
Harry was told to ignore Draco, to ignore the insults and the laughs headed his way. Harry was told that Draco was bad, and that there would be no fraternizing with the enemy.
But sometimes it was hard to ignore the looks that were not like the others. There were looks across the corridors that did not look like they would follow insults. They belonged after words like "love" and "always". But you never expected to hear those words from a Malfoy.
Malfoys were associated with cold stones and moonless nights. You would never see a Malfoy dancing to music or wearing jeans. You would see them at work; acting like no feelings ever penetrated the thick skin that was in reality, thin as paper.
Harry noticed the looks, but never truly paid attention to them. He didn't know what real love looked like. He was too young when his parents left him to see that they gave Harry those looks every night of his life.
Harry was loved; of course, by friends, the occasional admirer, the Weasleys. But to him, those looks of love that he missed from Malfoy, those looks of unconditional love were as foreign to him as the West Indies.
Draco often wished Harry would polish off his glasses and take a look around. Watching Harry in class was not enough, but it was all he could do. Malfoys were not supposed to like the good. They were supposed to want power.
Malfoys would never be seen licking their fingers after a messy meal. They would never laugh too hard, in fear their hair would fall out of place. Harry Potter was the kind of boy who would still wear his grass-stained slacks, and who laughed until he cried.
Draco knew that being brave and kind and blowing dandelions would get you nowhere in life. Gryffindors would rather play a round of Wizard's chess than work on their spells. In life, you had to be sneaky, cunning and sly. Or the world will just stab you in the back. And it would be a shame to know that you wasted your time lollygagging rather than working.
Some of the looks Draco gave Harry were meant to be seen by everybody. Draco didn't care. Some of the looks were supposed to be hidden from everybody, except for the shining green eyes that lay under a scar. But sometimes Draco worried that Harry would see them, and get the wrong idea.
So the looks would go unnoticed. Often both parties knew they were there, but no action was taken. Pity, though. The looks were always ones to be noticed.
