Introduction

A sprawling Scottish castle and celebrated School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Hogwarts has been home and school to many notable witches and wizards. Founded in 990 AD by Godric Gryffindor, Helga Hufflepuff, Rowena Ravenclaw and Salazar Slytherin, this school takes in students of all ages from 11 years old to 18, and holds many fond memories for all of its alumni.

It is deeply entrenched in thousands of years' worth of history, and has had its many ups and downs, but ultimately is a treasure trove for knowledge and learning, and provides a second surrogate home to all its students.

Its interesting history is reflected in the quirky school motto: draco dormiens nunquam titillandus- or, for those that do not understand Latin, 'never tickle a sleeping dragon'. A sound piece of advice, but like the school itself, the motto hides more than what you see at first glance.

This book has been a pleasure to write, and I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I have enjoyed researching and writing.
