Prompt: Ted Tonks

Words: 651

Every Slytherin that Ted Tonks had ever encountered had looked at him with disdain, and most of them called him "mudblood". This became worse after he was made Headboy. He would constantly have Slytherins telling him how it was a disgrace that a mudblood like him was made Headboy. He even received notes from Slytherins that were insults and sometimes accompanied with threats.

Ted had a hard time controlling some of the Slytherins prefects who refused to take orders from him. His biggest concern was working together with Andromeda Black. Ted had never spoken to Andromeda, but he had seen how horrible her sister Bellatrix was. He had even been bullied by Bellatrix and her gang while she was still at school. Ted assumed Andromeda and Narcissa were non-violent versions of Bellatrix with the same mindset. Andromeda's resemblance to Narcissa cemented this assumption of his.

Ted was surprised by Andromeda though. As he got a closer look at her, he could see she looked a lot kinder than Bellatrix, especially in her eyes and he found himself attracted to her looks. She didn't look at him with disdain unlike the other Slytherins. Without Andromeda, Ted would not have been able to handle the Slytherins, especially the Slytherin prefects. They showed respect to Andromeda as she was a pureblood from an aristocratic family.

It was during one of their prefects meetings that Ted began fancying Andromeda. The Slytherin prefects were talking back to him as usual and arrogantly proclaiming that they didn't have to listen to a mudblood when Andromeda stood up for him.

"SILENCE!" she yelled as the Slytherin prefects fell silent.

"I have had it with you lot. Tonks is the Headboy and you lot will show him that respect regardless of his blood status. I don't care if you think you shouldn't be controlled by a muggle-born, you bloody well put up with it. One more word out of line against Tonks and I will report to Professor Dumbledore that you're unprofessional and uncooperative. And believe me, that there would be repercussions. DO I MAKE MY SELF CLEAR?" yell Andromeda.

The Slytherin prefects nodded apprehensively. Andromeda looked about as scary as Bellatrix when she was angry and that mostly did the trick to keep them in line. However, unlike Bellatrix, there was something about her anger that was more intriguing, endearing and righteous that made him drawn to her. After the prefects had left, Ted was left alone with Andromeda. He wanted to thank her but he was hesitant and unsure about how she would react. He approached her cautiously.

"Black, I … I just …wanted to thank you for sticking up for me just now," said Ted.

Andromeda's lips curled into a smile that made his knees weak and enhanced her kind eyes.

"No need to thank me. It was my job to put them in their place," said Andromeda.

"You don't think I'm a mudblood," these words escaped him before he could stop himself.

Andromeda let out a laugh.

"To be honest, I was raised to think muggle-borns were inferior and to be disdained, but my years at Hogwarts have made me question my family's beliefs and realize that they were wrong. So no, I don't think of you as inferior because you're muggle-born," said Andromeda as she walked away, leaving behind a smitten Ted.

As Ted watched Andromeda walk away, he realized that he fancied her. However, he didn't get his hopes high. He heard that the Black family disowned and burnt blood traitors off their tree. Andromeda may not disdain him as a human being for his blood status, but she would certainly to give up her family and birth right for a boy. Besides, a charming, attractive, pureblood from an aristocratic family like her would have offers from load of more eligible boys. Why would she go for a middle-class muggle-born like him instead?
