Christmas Fruitcake

Daniel sends Jack a Christmas card with a note. D/V fluff.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Dear Jack.

I'm adding this note in your Christmas card. Yes, I know, I've never sent you a Christmas Card before and yes, you are getting it late.

I know you are laughing at me right about now, thinking Sam and my teammates really pulled one over on me. Right. They did. Give Sam a kiss for me. I'll explain later.

As you know Sam left for Washington, Mitchell for Kansas, and Teal'c for Chulak, leaving Vala alone for the holidays unless I took her home with me.

My house looks like an upscale department store with designer Holiday decorating. There are gaily wrapped boxes stacked up like a Christmas tree in one corner and a seven foot Christmas tree in the other one. There are over 400 hundred lights on that damned tree. It took me six tries to get them just the way she wanted them. Some of the decorations were so expensive I'm afraid to look at my credit card bill and the cheap ones...well there's probably thousands of those things on there.

So, here it is, Christmas day. I left work late yesterday- wait that would be today at 2 a.m, after finishing the translations Reynolds left for me...he needs them tomorrow for his mission.

Vala, of course, came here four days ago, right after everyone left and she pouted for an hour until I handed over my keys. My house keys, car keys, mailbox key. I had to get a ride home every night. I considered staying in my quarters on base, but didn't want to leave her alone at my place. I'm sure she's had all my keys copied by now. Which is fine by me. I'll explain later.

She's in my kitchen trying for the third time to make a fruitcake. It should be annoying. Actually, it should be extremely annoying. But the annoying thing is, it isn't annoying.

Okay, back to the fruitcake...baking not Vala. The last two attempts are on the patio. Not one bird has attempted to eat it. Scary, right?

My kitchen is in direct contrast to the rest of the house. Apparently while I slept late this morning there was an explosion of flour and strange dried fruits.

She looks adorable, though. No. Really. Pigtails wound with tinsel and a 'Grinch Santa hat' perched atop her head. You know, the one with the spiraled up thing with a ball on top? She has on an amazing fuzzy tight red sweater and some even more amazing tight green leggings and fur lined boots. All covered with white flour. Cute, huh?

Oh...did I mention she hasn't slept one night in my guest room? Her Christmas present to me. Get it?

So I really owe a lot to Sam, Teal'c and Mitchell for leaving her behind for me.

I'm looking forward to the fruitcake for desert...Vala not the baked one.

What did I get her for Christmas, you might be asking? A very large, savings account draining, engagement ring. What did you give Sam?

Hope you also had a Merry Christmas,

Daniel
