I love the Mentalist, but I've never written for it before. This is my first attempt, in the perspective of a character that I love despite his complete lack of personality! Not a case, because I don't feel I could come up with something good-just a typical CBI morning.
He was the first one to the office that day. Strange. It wasn't often that someone beat boss lady. Stepping into their section of the building, he realized that he hadn't really beaten Lisbon to work-she was asleep at her desk with papers from their current case spread out in front of her. He understood why. Drunk dad a suspect in beating his son to death-it would certainly hit home. Today she'd be especially short with all of them, especially Jane.
Settling into his chair, Cho booted up his computer and nodded a greeting to Rigsby as he entered the room, humming. His friend kept glancing over at Lisbon's office, and five minutes or so after arriving, he leaned over to adjust a plant on the window. Cho began to watch the door, as he had a sneaking suspicion that that subtle motion had been a signal of some sort. A minute or so later, Van Pelt walked in. Rigsby watched her go to her seat, and she allowed herself to glance at him. They smiled. Cho caught Rigsby's eye and smiled knowingly. They had arrived together this morning. Nice going, Wayne.
Out of the corner of his eye Cho saw Lisbon rise, stretch, and then realize where she was. She sat bolt upright and glanced out at the team to see if they noticed. Cho pretended to be very interested in his computer screen. Looking frantic, Lisbon slipped out of her office and returned ten minutes later. She gave them all a cheerful greeting and asked how they had slept.
So she was going to pretend that she had come from home. It was a good thing that Jane wasn't there-he'd know exactly what had been bothering her and annoy her about it. Then he'd have to drive Jane around since she'd refuse to do it herself, and work would have a tense atmosphere until the two made up.
Jane arrived less than ten minutes later, greeting the team with a big grin and flopping onto the couch. He cocked his head, looking up at that stupid stain he always commented on. It looked particularly interesting today-Cho could tell by the way he kept glancing at Lisbon. He was just waiting for her to ask him something so he could bring the stain up and annoy her. When she didn't look his way or speak to him, Jane began to hum. That did the trick. He had so called that one. Cho shook his head, feeling just a little proud of himself.
Maybe it was just the group. Maybe they knew each other so well that they were easy to read. But Kimball Cho had a feeling that he was getting pretty badass at all of this mentalist stuff.
Boy, do I miss new episodes…anyway, review this if you want to…I hope it wasn't really, REALLY bad…
