-effortlessly-
If you asked Lily Evans five years ago who she'd expect to fall in love with, James Potter would not be a name that'll come up. James Potter? Who are you kidding? That prick who thinks he's so clever with those tricks and pranks—which in her most humble opinion, isn't funny at all—is not her type, most definitely. All James Potter has is a big ego and a group of followers—well, only three people, but you know what they say, three's a crowd—and nothing else. No brains, no charm, no wit, no humor. Nothing. And that's what Lily would've said to anyone who ever suggested James. That, and most likely a punch to the face.
But it right here, right now, isn't five years ago. It's now.
And now, Lily Evans is smiling for no reason. She's sitting in her bed, and it's midnight, and she has a huge test tomorrow, but she doesn't care. She remembers when smiling was hard to do, simply because she's never had a reason to smile. A couple of hours ago, James had called her beautiful, and five years ago, she wouldn't think anything of it. But she's smiling now, because she couldn't stop hearing his voice. She can't sleep, because he's echoing in her mind, repeating the words that five years ago, wouldn't be much of a big deal: "Oy, Evans! Stop acting like you can't hear me! Hey, hey. You crying? Who in the bloody hell would make a beautiful girl like you cry? Is it Snivellus? Did he call you the "m" word again? That little bitch!—Oh, no no no...don't cry on me! Stop, please. I hate it when you cry...—Alright, I'll stay with you. I'll just send Sirius and Peter to beat the crap out of that bugger."
And so Lily Evans found a reason to smile. He goes by the name of James Potter, and she can't think of a better reason to smile—especially because for once in her life, she's smiling, effortlessly.
A/N: Exactly 400 words(w/this). Just a drabble I wrote at midnight. Because I thought it was cute, I therefore love it. Reviews are love. :)
