Detention Centre
Phoenix stared at the red empty chair before him and sighed deeply. He was looking forward to see Iris again without everyone, especially Pearl, there with him. He wanted to tell Iris something desperately, and he was sure she did too.
Phoenix was lost in thought, remembering his time with 'Dollie.' He still couldn't believe it wasn't the same girl who gave him the heart shaped bottle necklace that fateful day. He thought it was love at first sight and that necklace was a symbol of it. All that time he thought he was in love with Dahlia.
No, the girl he spent six months with is who he fell in love with. He fell in love with Iris.
The guard standing in the corner of the small room cleared his throat and it pulled Phoenix out of his thoughts and memories. His eyes darted back and forth, across the room, and he remembered he was in the detention centre.
The security camera, barred windows, bright lights and the guard on constant watch, made sure no one escaped or tried to pull something off. Yep, definitely the detention centre.
The guard abruptly turned to the large metal door and turned the knob. He opened the door slowly and Iris, in her spirit medium clothes, stepped in. Once her eyes locked with Phoenix's, she smiled sheepishly, and so did he. She hesitantly sat down on the chair and her cheeks began to turn pink. Iris is normally shy, so this was no surprise to Phoenix. Though he knew, his heart knew, that she was blushing for a different reason.
"...Th-thank you for visiting me." Iris said in her usual placid voice. "Thank you so much... Feenie."
He felt his face grow hotter. "No... I want to thank you."
Iris' eyes widened in surprise. "Oh? Thank me? What for?"
"For trying to stop Dahlia," Phoenix answered. "For doing everything you could to stop her from harming me."
The spirit medium turned away and looked down on the floor. "Don't thank me for that. I lied to you, and I will never forgive myself."
Phoenix put on a brave face and tried to fight back the tears. "No, I would be dead already if it wasn't for you. You had no idea who I was, and yet, you still convinced your sister to not kill me."
Iris faced Phoenix and they both smiled sweetly at each other. "...You're right. If I didn't do all that, I wouldn't have met you. If I never met you, then..." Iris' eyes were drawn to her lap as she turned a brighter red. Phoenix knew what she was going to say, and it was he wanted to say this whole time.
"If I never met you, then I would have never fallen in love with you."
She gasped. "H-how did you know?"
"Because I know this myself. I... I love you, Iris."
Iris blushed even more, making her face look like a bright red tomato. "I... I love you, too."
After hours of reminiscing in memories, the couple's connection grew stronger and they didn't want to leave each other.
"Visiting hours are almost over!" The guard yelled out.
The couple both smiled a sad smile. Phoenix didn't want to leave her. He wanted to be with her, just for a few more hours. Maybe even forever. Though he knew that couldn't be. He had to wait.
Phoenix pressed his hand against the glass which separated the two lovers, and Iris did the same. "I'll visit you again. I'll visit you every week! No, every day!" Phoenix cried.
Iris giggled softly. "Thank you, Feenie. I'll pray for you."
"Thank you." As much as Phoenix didn't want to say it, he did. "Goodbye, Iris."
Tears streamed down Iris' rosy cheeks. As much as she didn't want to say it, she did. "Goodbye, Feenie."
Phoenix stood up to leave, still fighting back the tears with fists clenched. But before he walked off, he suddenly remembered something. "Happy Valentine's Day."
