What Did He Have To Lose?
Barney sat still leaning against the wall outside his apartment building staring across the street, what was the point? He sighed and slowly got up he glanced toward the doors to his building and shook his head he couldn't bear to be all alone in his empty flat right now.
He trudged down the street just missing the mobster car drive up to the building and Marshall screaming to get money to set him free and Ted saying they were kidnapping him, no he was gone long before then.
He was just walking he passed everything he cared about each of his "friends" apartments, where he worked, McLaren's, and the flats of countless girls he had slept with before finally getting back to the Hudson river, the one he had jumped in so long ago when he had promised robin he would not sleep with that girl, whatever her name was he couldn't be bothered to try and remember it didn't really matter anyway.
Barney sat and stared over the river and cried, not sobbing, just crying he didn't even realise he was crying until a tear fell onto his suit. Alone again just like he was all those years ago when he met Ted in McLaren's and decided to teach him to be cool. He could always start again choose a new bar and a new project, a new person to be made into the perfect wingman everything Ted was not. No he couldn't do that he couldn't just replace the people he loved.
Barney stood up slowly and walked over to the fence and gazed down into the river remembering just how cold it had been and how near to death he would have come had he stayed in the river longer and hadn't tried to swim to safety.
Barney shrugged, what did he have to lose. He slowly climbed over the railing, memories swirling to the forefront of his mind.
Meeting Ted, licking the Liberty Bell, daring Robin to say funny things on air, the Lusty Leopard, Ted trying to find "The One", The Playbook, being volunteer of the year, new year's eves, Halloweens, Christmas's, Shannon, convincing Ted his date was a prostitute, lasertag, Robin, Quinn, Marshall, Lilly, James and all the plots he had used over the years to both get laid and entertain his friends.
Barney smiled to himself and whispered "Legendary" before he jumped.
