A/N: Just a fluffy bit of friendship I wrote a month or so back. I was attempting to write a pretty depressing story, but it turned out almost kind of happy. Huh, weird. -shrugs- Well, I hope you guys like it.
A thanks to everyone who have watched/favorited me or my stories, I REALLY appreciate the support! :D
I don't own Naruto~
Sasuke frowned as he sat on the pier overlooking the lake. He thought about all the times he trained here in order to catch up to his older brother. When he was small, he thought that there was some way to be just as good as Itachi, no matter how hard it seemed to be. Little did he know, he would eventually surpass his brother, if only by a small fraction. Now he was back in the Village of the Hidden Leaf, hoping to set things right between himself and the world.
Sasuke was distracted from his thoughts by the sound of footsteps on the wooden planks behind him. "I should've guessed you might be here." The raven snorted. "Why are you here, dobe?" Naruto grinned and sat beside him. "I thought you could use some company, teme. Everyone was wondering where you were y'know."
Sasuke didn't care much for a lot of things, but he had slowly warmed up to some of their old group. He talked more to Hinata and Tenten, and even Gaara, when they happened to see each other. Sasuke was still getting used to the others though, but it would happen sooner or later.
"They don't need to worry." Naruto smiled at him. "They're going to worry anyway and you know that. Besides, that's just what friends do." Sasuke looked over at the blonde jinchuriki. "I never said they were my friends." Naruto gave him a look. "You never said they weren't your friends either." Sasuke shook his head, staring down at the water stretching out before them.
'He could always read me whether I thought he could or not…' Sasuke thought. Even during their fight in the Valley of the End, Naruto and Sasuke could always read each other's hearts. It disturbed the Uchiha at first, but as time went on, he finally accepted it. Naruto was his best friend. The blonde was the closest anyone could get to him at this point. That's why it was Naruto who sought out Sasuke, always determined to bring him back home no matter what the consequences were. Sasuke sighed deeply as he looked to the dark sky and closed his tired eyes.
"No matter what happens, you always have us, Sasuke." Naruto smiled beside him. Sasuke made a small sound of acknowledgement, slowly opening his eyes to gaze at the golden-yellow hair beside him that was ruffled by the occasional soft breeze. It was always this color that helped him realize why he was trying so hard to right the wrongs of his past and recreate his life in Konoha. Sasuke did it all for the strong teen next to him. If he hadn't had Naruto chasing after him, he wasn't sure that he would've ever returned to the Leaf. "You're such a nuisance, dobe," Sasuke grunted softly. Naruto laughed, punching his shoulder lightly. "You know you love it." Sasuke smiled slightly, reaching over and ruffling his blonde hair.
'No matter what happens, I always have you. Because you're the best friend a person like me could ever have.'
