Documented Birthdays
Summary: Maxie receives a dvd in the mail of her daughter's first birthday.
When she arrives home after leaving the hospital, there's a small box infront of her door. She picks it up, taking in the return address and taking a deep breath. It's addressed from Portland, Damian Spinelli written neatly on the tag. Maxie takes a calming breath and takes the box inside, openng it up slowly. a folded up letter falls out along with a small, pink and green photo album, and a dvd. She opens the letter first, smiling as she sees Damian's unique scrawl.
Dear Maximista,
Wow, it's been so long since I've called you that. It seems good. At first, I debated writing this letter or sending the
following pictures or dvd of our little Georgie's first birthday. I was a bit angry that you didn't seem to care to return my
calls or come to the hearing. It was through your friend, Nathan that I learnt what happened. I hope that you are okay now.
I should've never doubted you. Georgie is happy and healthy. She's beautiful and sweet and Ellie and I celebrated the first
time she walked. Because of Ellie's quick thinking, we were able to put together an album of the first year of Georgie's life.
You deserve to be a part of it. Maybe you could call me back and we can discuss another court hearing?
Sincerly yours,
Spinelli.
She lets out a chuckle, swiping away her tears with a shaky hand as she notices the spill onto the paper. She hadn't known how much she missed Spinelli until she read his letter. Sure, he was the father of her child and she wasn't in love with him, anymore. But he was also her best friend besides LuLu that is. He was someone who'd never given up on her. She sets the letter down and handles the dvd with delicate hands, moving to grab her laptop. After slipping it into her computer, the video starts and Spinelli comes on the screen, Georgie in his arms.
Maxie stifles a sob as she sees how much Georgie has grown. Her hair is longer and the color of her namesake's. Her eyes are bright, wide, and blue and she's wearing this pretty blue checkered dress and a pair of matching shoes. She looks so happy and healthy. Maxie continues to watch as Spinelli, Ellie, and Miriam Spinelli all sit at the table, smiling at the little girl in the highchair, enjoying her cupcake. She watches as her little girl tears open presents like a tidal wave and then demands to be picked up by her father. She watches as the little girl flashes a gummy little grin to the camera. And that is when Maxie begins to let go, truly sob. She could've had this. If she hadn't been so stupid as to listen to Levi or Peter or whatever his name truly was, she could've had this. She could've been there to help her baby girl blow out her candle. She could've been there to see her baby girl begin to walk and to hear her first word. She'd done a lot of things in her life she wasn't proud of, but doing the things that were keeping her from her daughter were the things she regretted the most.
When the video came to a stop, she ejected it and put it back in it's case before pulling the small photo album onto her lap with shaky hands. She smiled, she laughed, and she cried as she went through the pictures. Pictures of Georgie in Spinelli's arms or Ellie's or Miriam's. Pictures of her daughter being held by Sam and pictures of the little girl with Danny. There were pictures of the child infront of a Christmas tree and one of her on the Easter bunny's lap. Many moments that Maxie had missed were on there and Maxie couldn't help but make a solemn vow to herself that she'd do all she could to prove herself worthy in front of the judge of being a part of her sweet angel's life.
The End
