Link makes a friend! Aww!

I don't own The Legend of Zelda. I only own a copy of Ocarina of Time for the Nintendo 64, a copy of Ocarina of Time for the 3DS, and a copy of Skyward Sword.

The Lost Woods at night. They were so peaceful, no one else was there to disturb Link as he lay on a stump, staring at the sky and its myriad constellations. He often came out here alone at night, just after all the Kokiri had gone to bed.

Link liked it out here. He felt as if he was a part of the forest itself, like the Deku Scrubs that lived around here. In the dark, everything was new and mysterious, no matter how familiar this place was to Link.

A cool breeze ruffled his hair and sent a shiver down his spine as he sat up.

Link had an overwhelming feeling that he was being watched. He attempted to convince himself it was him being paranoid, for he didn't want anyone in his village to know that he came out to the Lost Woods at night.

When the feeling didn't fade, he looked around wildly, hoping to see what was causing him to be so uncomfortable.

Link spotted a Deku Scrub, a young one that was smaller than the others. It was staring intensely at him, but ducked out of sight as soon as he looked at it.

Soon, the scrub peeped out of its grass and saw that Link had crawled close to it. The little scrub jumped several inches into the air in surprise and prepared to spit a Deku Nut at him. Its aim was slightly off.

"Shh, it's okay. I won't hurt you." Link reassured in a whisper. "Please don't spit that at me."

The Deku Scrub hesitated for a second, and then dropped the Deku Nut onto the ground.

"Are you a Kokiri? Where's your fairy?" it asked. "All Kokiri have fairies."

Link smiled sadly. "I don't have a fairy. I never did."

"Oh." The little scrub hopped out of the grass it was nestled in. "But, if you don't have a fairy, you'll get lost and turn into a Skull Kid!"

Link shrugged and made an "I don't know" face. "I guess the goddesses like me or something. I come out here almost every night, and I'm not a Skull Kid yet."

"Still, you should be careful." The Deku Scrub cocked its head to the side. "What's your name, anyway? I'm Tora."

"My name's Link." he moved to a more comfortable sitting position, brushing a bit of soil off his tunic. "Tora's a nice name."

"Link is a cool name! I want a name like that! You sound like you could be a famous person or something."

Link laughed. "I guess you could say that. I never thought about it. What could I do to become famous? I can't leave the forest."

Tora yawned, and then climbed back into the grass clump it was in before. "I'm tired. I'm supposed to be sleeping right now, but I couldn't fall asleep."

"Yeah, me too." Link stood up. "I should go back to my house now."

"G'night, Link!"

"Good night, Tora."

Link waved to the little Deku Scrub and walked out of the Lost Woods.

He wouldn't see Tora again for seven years.
