He never understood why she always looked so sad. He never understood her. She was a beautiful girl, only 20 years old. Long black hair and icy blue eyes, her face had sharp edges, which he had never seen with a girl before. She was one of his maids, she worked fast and long and never complained. He was fascinated by her, the way she almost never spoke, and when she did only very shortly, but never to him. He was fascinated by her beauty, almost too beautiful to be real, like a painting or doll. He didn't know her name and wanted to ask her every single time he saw her. Like now. Septimus was sitting on his chair near the fire, pretending to read a book while watching her clean the heavy rug on the floor. Her hands moved fast and sometimes he saw her sign deeply. He didn't know what had happened to the girl, but he was sure it was bad. When she was finished, she stood up, took her stuff, bowed her head to him and left. Stunned, Septimus was left behind. He sat there at the fire for a long time, staring at the flames, thinking about the horrible things that could have happened to this girl, until he was disturbed by one of his servants, knocking on his door.

"Come in." he said.

A young man opened the door. "Your Majesty is waiting for you and your brothers in his room, he said he had something important to say."

Septimus looked at the man. He had black hair at very blue eyes, and he looked like his maid, the only difference was that the young servant had sparkling eyes, happy eyes.

Septimus nodded. "Thank you, you can go now."

The boy nodded and left. Septimus slowly got up and went to see his father, his dying father
