"DEAN, NO!" Castiel screamed as he watched his friend run full speed towards a demon.

When Dean collided with the demon - Lucas was his name - Lucas simply held out his hand to claw down Dean's chest Dean collapsed to the ground, immediately overcome with convulsions, his lips stretched wide open in a silent cry of torture.

Cas raised his gaze from the writhing body to meet Lucas' eyes.

"You're dead," he growled, sprinting towards the demon.

Murdering that demon had caused Cas to be a little tired, but he needed to take care of Dean. So, he immediately ran to kneel beside his hunter.

"Dean?" he squeaked. The hunter was now still, as his seizure had ended.

"C..." Dean attempted to speak, but failed. His eyes were cracked open just enough to see a blurry angel.

"Shh, Dean..." Cas whispered, thankful for the man's breathing even though it was labored. The angel's hand flew up to brush Dean's cheek as a tear slid down Cas' face.

"Cas, don't..." Dean coughed, choking on his words. Castiel took one glance at Dean's injuries and knew the demon's claws had hit something fatal.

The angel was not able to heal Dean this time because his powers had been slowly weakening. He was becoming human. At this point, all he had left were his hidden wings.

Dean coughed again, this time causing blood to drip down his chin.

Cas whimpered, another tear falling down his face.

The hunter impulsively reached up to caress Castiel's cheek, brushing the salty tears off his face. "Don't..."

Castiel turned to Dean's wound, his expression determined. "No, Dean, you aren't going to...I can fix you...!" He ran his sleeve over Dean's cuts. When he paused to lift it up, it was soaked with blood.

The hunter sighed, his breath catching at the end before he coughed again, causing another stream of blood to flow down his chin. He moved his hand off Cas' face to catch the angel's wrist weakly. "Cas, I...I need to tell you something before I...-"

"Dean, you aren't going to-"

"Yes I am, Cas, let me talk!" Dean said loudly, tears finally spilling over his eyelashes.

Castiel was breathing quickly and shakily, while Dean's labored breaths were growing gradually further apart.

"I-I...Cas, I..." Dean's eyes looked somewhere behind Castiel's shoulder as his breath caught in his throat. The hunter's heart stopped before he could say 'I love you'.
