A/N: Just for fun! The story takes place during Half Blood Prince.
Students at Harfield University of Magic in Sacramento, California were whispering excitedly. They all knew an exchange student from Hogwarts was coming. They just didn't know who!
"Maybe it will be Harry Potter!"
"No you idiot! They aren't going to send HIM!"
"Wouldn't it be cool though?"
"I don't know… What do you think he would be like?"
"Probably how anyone would be if they lost their entire family and it was up to them to destroy Voldemort."
"True…"
"Mr. Daniels! Miss Mulvey! Are you paying attention?"
"Yes ma'am." They said to their Transfiguration professor.
"Then, Miss Mulvey, can you please proceed in showing the class how to turn your cat into a toad."
Professor Hart thought that she had caught them, but Evelyn did the spell perfectly the first time.
Nobody was really surprised.
"Class," Professor Hart said regaining their attention, "Precede with the spell and tonight for homework give me 400 words on it. I know it's only the beginning of the year, but you have lots to learn."
The class sighed and got to work
Luna Lovegood was walking with her Head of House, Professor Flitwick, to the Headmaster's office. She was very nervous about this situation and was having trouble concentrating.
She attributed it to nargles.
They got to the statue of a gargoyle and Flitwick said the password.
"Lemon Drop."
They walked up the spiral staircase to the door of Headmaster Dumbledore's office.
The professor knocked quickly three times then turned around to smile at his student. She smiled warmly back at him. Luna gazed around airily.
"Come in," Dumbledore said from inside.
Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore sat at his desk looking very tired. Never-the-less he smiled at the two people who were walking into his office.
"Filius, Miss Lovegood, please have a seat."
Professor Flitwick was bouncing in his seat with excitement. Albus saw this and smiled.
"Miss Lovegood, what do you know about America?"
"Well, Crumple-Horned Snorcack has been sighted in Upper Washington State once or twice, Nargles are running rampant through the capital, Fresh Water Pimples are in the Superior Lake, and there is two Magical Schools."
"What do you know about these schools?" Dumbledore asked.
"Not much," she said, "They keep their secrets a secret. My guess is that they would be similar to Hogwarts."
"Miss Lovegood, you are a very talented witch. More than you friends know, more than maybe even you know. You have shown great skill in all of your classes and in the D.A. last year. Your fantastic performance in the Department of Mysteries was enough to show us that."
Luna didn't say anything but continued to gaze at him lightly.
"Miss Lovegood, we want you to exchange to Harfield University of Magic this year."
Professor Flitwick looked like he was going to explode with happiness.
"Does my father know?" Luna asked.
"Yes. He said if you wanted to go, he would be most happy and very proud."
"I'll go."
Dumbledore smiled and Flitwick almost hugged her.
"Fantastic! Tomorrow after the feast you shall meet with officers from the American and British Ministry of Magic and make your way to the school."
"Thank you, sir," she said.
"For what?"
"Believing in me," she said simply.
If Dumbledore way shocked (which he was,) he didn't show it.
"Sir?" she said turning around as she was about to walk out the door.
"Yes Luna?"
"You might want to try clearing your head of all the nargles."
And she was gone.
