Author's Notes: I was up late, after watching the movie in the theater for the second time, and I finally decided to write down the obvious - and overlooked - explanation to a certain 2-second sequence near the middle of the movie. You'll see what I mean. I've tried to make this as clear as possible, but if it still confuses you as to where I get this from or what the hell I'm doing, please tell me and I'll explain it in non-fic terms. It won't surprise me; I am the only one, out of all 15 people I've talked to who've seen the movie, who recognized the voice and its possible significance.

Disclaimer: Star Wars and all its characters belong to George Lucas, much as I hate to admit it. I'm just borrowing them for a while.

Summary: A different perspective on the scene in Attack of the Clones, when Anakin slaughters the Tusken Raiders. Expands on the very familiar voice (which nobody else has picked up on who it is - I still can't believe that!) that Yoda heard while meditating during Anakin's rampage. Very short.
Genre: General/Angst
Rating: PG for death

I hover over the distraught young man, wishing I could offer even a small bit of comfort. In his arms he holds the corpse of his mother, still warm and bloody. I can feel his horror and anguish as he stares at her lifeless, blank face.

Through the years, I have watched this boy become a man. I have been with him through his missions, his tragedies, his triumphs. I alone have witnessed things that no one else should ever see, yet the Jedi are blind to. I, who once thought such a boy could do no evil, have seen this young man do terrible things.

I have to stop him, but I cannot touch him. There is only one way to stop him from doing something more.

But as I watch him raise his head from where it rested on his chest, I can see the frightening power of his anger in his eyes. He seems to stare accusingly at me, though I know he cannot see me. It is as if he is blaming his mother's demise on me, for pulling him away from his homeworld and putting him in a helpless position when she needed him most.

He stands up, gently setting his mother's body on the sands inside the hut. Then, with surprising violence, he rips his lightsaber off his belt and ignites it.

I can only watch in horror as he decapitates two Tusken Raider guards, completely in anger. I call out.

"Anakin!"

He puts his lightsaber in an attack position as the other Raiders recover from the shock and grab their weapons.

"Anakin!"

He raises the blade, and brings it down...

"NO!"

I, Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn, have witnessed the falling of the Chosen One.

End.
