Author's Note: For Sanzo x Goku day.
----
He was always so cool, calm and collected. In the face of danger, death, and hell;
In the face of love too.
Ok, well, maybe not all the time. But if he ever showed distress or concern it was when Goku was in a bad, bad situation. And really how often was that? Goku wasn't stupid enough to do that on purpose, anyway.
Goku wanted to buy him flowers. Yes, flowers would be nice, and - oh no, wait. It wouldn't. Sanzo would just stare blankly and say "What are these for?" or "Why are you giving these to me?" So, Son Goku, what was Plan B? Truth be told, he didn't have one. Oh Genjo Sanzo, why do you have to be so hard to get? Thing is, maybe Sanzo didn't even like him. Maybe Sanzo was just protective because of... hell, Goku didn't know. It was too complicated for him.
Hm, maybe he just had to tweak Plan A a little? No, no. Hell, that wouldn't work.
Dear Sanzo, I love you.
----
He was always so happy and hyper and energetic, his mind always centered on food. So how could his mind and his heart ever be centered on a particular person? In any case, he was so selfless. All the time. Always checking if he was ok. Always giving him food. Always sharing his opinion, so Sanzo could see the other point of view. He was so damn complex. He seemed simple, but Sanzo knew the truth. And who would've thought it? Goku's eyes sometimes brimmed with care and concern for him, just as Sanzo would think, I need it to be ok. And then it was.
But damn. How could Goku know love? It wasn't as though he had ever experienced it, after all. Was it all just platonic and futile?
Maybe Sanzo should buy him something. A nikuman, perhaps. But knowing Goku, he would just take it and eat it and say "Thanks Sanzo!" Hmph. Stupid. Stupid, stupid, stupid.
Just freaking tell him. This new revelation was sudden, and Sanzo felt something pop inside him. Maybe it was his sanity or his judgement, but something told him, hey, that could work. Where was Goku? Outside.
He made his way out and down the corridor when he met him. Don't be an idiot. He's not looking for you. He's going back to his own room which, incidentally, is next to yours. But Sanzo swallowed that thought. "I was looking for you."
Goku smiled. "So was I." If there was ever a good reason to shoot yourself down, Genjo Sanzo, doubting the situation was it. Say it. Say it now.
But Sanzo hesitated for a second (well, maybe five. Or ten. Or sixty) and before he knew it: "I love you, Sanzo."
Say it, come ON. At least you know he loves you back. They just gazed at each other for a while, until Sanzo could finally get the words out. "I love you too, Goku."
So what does the monkey do? Launch himself into Sanzo's arms, of course. Where it's all warm and snuggly and safe. Goku was all warm and snuggly and safe.
Maybe saying those three words wasn't that bad after all. Sanzo kissed the boy's forehead and smiled, just a little.
END
Aww. This is like the first 393 fic I've written all year. I miss this pairing.
