BRAIN-STORM:
Roxas & Axel
Axel has been acting weird since this morning…. 'Cause at breakfast I asked him what the day was and then he clammed up and left the table in a rush- saying something like:
"I'll be RIGHT back, so don't' kill me, K?! Got it memorized?!"
Weirdo. I'll bet you he forgot to do his laundry, or something stupid like that. He does it all the time, so what's so important about this time? Maybe he didn't sign off at his job? Got another one? Hmm…. I can't think of a whole lot of thing that would make me mad enough to scare Axel….. Oh well.
This morning Roxas asked me:
"What's today, Axel?"
And I swear I 'bout had a seizure! 'Cause at that moment- I remembered the fact that today was our anniversary! Several in fact. The 3rd since we left the organization, 2nd since we started going out, and 1st since Roxas moved in! And I forgot….. BIG TIME…. So, like, now I have to go out and get something…. flowers? No, to girly. Uh…. Movie tickets? Naw, I don't know what Roxas wants to see…. How about…. Yeah! That's it!! It'll take about, what, an hour to have them fitted? And I can get one of Roxas' old ones- and this one I have on!!! Great, I'm a genius you know.
About an Hour and a half after Axel ran out- he came back with this little black cube with tinny orange bows around it. I eye it before looking back up at him.
"And WHAT, exactly, is THIS?"
Axel looks sheepishly down at me and says-
"Happy anniversary?"
My jaw drops. I'd all but forgotten about that! I keep gawking at him till he tilts his head to the side.
"Roxas?" "Uh, yeah, r-really?"
Axel beams and hands me the box. I fumble with the bow before the little lid opens slightly. I flick it open all the way, and inside, is a pair of rings. One looks to be my size, and next to it, is a ring MUCH larger. About Axels' size. Eventually Axel gets tired of watching me look at the flame and heart motif and plucks the box out of my palm, as well as the smaller ring. Then he asks for my hand, and places the band on my left, middle finger. I keep staring at the thing as he puts his on as well.
"So, do you like it?"
I turn with wide eyes and nod vigorously.
"Yes Axel! Oh, this is the first…. Thank you so much, Axel!"
Roxas looks so happy right now. And, really, it seems like he'd forgotten about the day as well. Guess that makes this easier for me to look cool then, huh? Later- when we go to bed, Roxas roll's over and looks at me with those beautiful cerulean blue eyes, and says:
"Thank you Axel, I think this is the first time I ever loved a day so much."
And I know I did the right thing. And hey- maybe next year- it'll get even better!
