A little piece of Horatio's daily life came to my mind. I would like to share it with you. Please be patient with my way to write the English language :0) the story isn't beta-read.
Of course I own nothing - J.B. does. - Lucky man!

Summary: Even a hero needs a friend

Exhausted Horatio searched for his keys in his pant's pockets. It had been a long day, the last four hours he had spent in his office, doing paperwork and finishing some forms. Enough was enough and he felt like he was going to collapse in short time. Therefore he had pushed away the files and had left his office, fast leaving the building and heading for his car to drive home.

With a heavy sigh he started the car. First he had to buy some food, if he could remember well his fridge was empty, except for some eggs and an expired yoghurt. Though it was near to ten in the evening he might be lucky and could buy some food at the little supermarket at the corner near his apartment. Actually it was open and almost empty; undisturbed the Lieutenant collected his errands. Some milk, cheese, a can of tuna, fried pieces of pullet and some salad. He was thinking about to make a salad with tuna or with the pullet - which one it would be he would decide at home. Grabbing a few other needed foods and then paying, he was ready and heading for his car with a paper bag in his arms.

Unfortunately fate was against the hungry man this night and on his way to the car he stumbled over some trash and was nearly dropping to the floor. He managed to stay at his legs, but his purchase flew to the ground.

"Darn it!" Horatio's patience was gone, he furious saved his foods, murmuring some swearwords which weren't helpful in this case but good to say while he was searching for the errands. As for his bag was ripped he picked up the single things and opened the car, to put them in.

While Horatio crouched at the floor, a little grey kitten with a white bib came out of the bushes at the parking lot. Maybe she had smelled the tuna, maybe the spilled milk had decoyed the little animal. Careful she looked at the murmuring man who was looking to the ground; and with a little jump she entered the car, disappeared behind the seats and couldn't be seen anymore.

Finally our hero was ready and with a grim facial expression he settled down behind the wheel of his car and drove home. He was angry, tired and hungry and couldn't calm down, this day was worse and he wanted nothing but to take a shower and have a meal, otherwise he couldn't guarantee for the way his next activities would be!

Reaching his parking lot at home he was preparing his meal in his thoughts - he wanted the tuna with the salad. Lost in anticipation for it and running on autopilot with his actions he suddenly was pulled out of thoughts.

'What was that?' He had heard a strange noise, something like whining and lamenting. 'It sounds like a little child is weeping,' he thought frightened, 'and it comes from behind me, just in the car.'

Horatio switched on the light in the car and looked carefully over the seats. With large eyes he watched the little cat which was retching and finally throwing up at his backseat bench.

"Oh, poor little thing, what are you doing in my car?" He grabbed the little cat with one hand, with the other he searched for a hanky and, finding one, he cleaned up both, the cat and the seat.

"You know, stowaways are going to thrown overboard," he whispered with a smile. "What shall I do with you now?" The kitten looked at him with puppy eyes. "Meow", it made. "Okay then", Horatio decided, suddenly very calm and happy, "I definitely will have a salad with pullet tonight; maybe you want some tuna?"

"Meow", the kitten sounded and began to purr. "So that is clear!", Horatio laughed and left the car, with the cat on his arms. After all it wasn't such a bad day.
