The dark haired boy watched the girl who was painting. Her silky hair fell lightly over her shoulders and pale candlelight reflected off it into the shadows. Every now and then she looked at him and smiled. Many people would claim that they had never seen anyone more beautiful than her. She shrugged it off, it was just who she was, but who was that? Who could she have been.

"What if we just left?" He said quietly so that her sisters would not hear.

"It doesn't work like that Danny," she replied even quieter "If you cross them they will ruin everything you have, had and want to have. You cannot let them get to you, however revolting they are."

"You do it too," he muttered.

"I've lived with my sisters since my mother died two years ago. We selected you one year ago, I follow their schemes and play their games and feel myself relating to them, I can't stop them, and neither can you."

"Honor is dead and Venetia isn't that powerful, if we unite…" She laughed softly.

"Unite; I am Unity, Unidad…"

"Why do they call you that?"

"It is Unity in our native language, Pequeno Una, Little One."

"They're mocking you."

"That is what they do Danny."

"What would you have done if you weren't with Them." Unity thought for a moment, occasionally shooting glances at her sisters who were engrossed in their own horrific activities.

"I would paint," she said finally.

"You paint now," he pointed out, accidentally stepping on a paint tube.

"It's not the same though is it? They're there, all the time, and I'm becoming more and more like them."

She came and sat next to him. "There are things in life more powerful than death."

"I don't understand, why do they… do… what they do."

"It is a natural instinct, we cannot survive without it."

"What do you mean?" He was a little apprehensive and scooted away from her but she took his face in her hands.

"Nothing can change who we are, but we can change you."

"What's happened to you?" He said hollowly. "You're just like them, suddenly, while we were talking." She leaned forward and kissed him gently, he shuddered.

"You can't change who we are," she repeated and kissed him again.

Her sisters watched them, satisfied expressions settling on their faces. "She is going well, soon we can make a true Vampire of both of them."
