Written on Tumblr on a whim (visit me at awakingdormancy . tumblr . com!) because I was attacked by Wayfinder family feels and listening to What I Wouldn't Do by A Fine Frenzy. Look them up, because they're a great group. Enjoy!
They were already dressed in their pajamas and socks, bundled up against the blustery winter night. The floor is still slick from the mopping they had done earlier in the day—which seems impossible, but hell to them if they're going to try and make sense of it. It had been another tired day of cleaning and restoring the Land of Departure and all three of them could feel the aches of the day in their bones and muscles.
They bid each other goodnight and start off in their own separate directions. And that was when Ven, a bit unsteady on his feet, slips and falls right on his face.
Both Terra and Aqua call out for him, but Ven brushes them off with a cheery "I'm okay!" He clings to the wall, which is a silly enough sight in itself that the elder Keyblade wielders smile in bemusement.
Experimentally Ven pushes himself off the wall and slides a little bit, cheering and wooping as he gains a bit of ground. He manages to stay on his feet this time, and he turns to Terra and Aqua with an almost impish grin on his face.
Twelve or thirteen years in the darkness or in sleep had given them so few opportunities for wild and crazy fun, and so when Ven had crashed down onto his butt only to come back laughing, and for Terra and Aqua to laugh, actually laugh deep from the gut… well, one thing turned into another quite quickly, and the suggestion to turn it into a competition came even quicker still.
It quickly becomes a contest over who can slide the farthest without stopping, with nothing but the wetness of the floor and their sock-covered feet. No magic, no nothing, just their brawn and high spirits.
It's Terra who goes first, always eager to sprint ahead without thinking about what he's doing. He goes through all the motions of flexing and physically preparing himself, in his own words, and pushes himself off as if he's an ice skater. He manages to pass a few doors, but it's nowhere near what he's expecting; both Aqua and Ven can tell from his frustrated expression, which replaces itself with amused laughter when Aqua pushes off, coming to a stop just a hair in front of him.
She grins and sticks her tongue out playfully, which is met by a playful growl from Terra, who pushes her down the hallway again (amidst a shouted "Hey!" from Ventus, who immediately accuses Terra of cheating; but if they had established rules, the two older Keyblade wielders had forgotten all about them) to her surprise and elation. She tries to grab at him, not quite sure where her balance has gone—
And then finds that she doesn't need it, because Ven, as always, has given a bit too much more effort than was needed: he crashes into Terra, who grabs Aqua and pulls her down into the giggling heap. Somehow their limbs get tangled in amongst each other: Aqua's head is on Terra's lap, and Ventus's hand is covering Aqua's face, and Terra has an arm pinned under Ven and tangled in Aqua's hair.
It's a chaotic, awful mess, but it's one they don't feel like cleaning up. This is the sort of mistake that doesn't have to be fixed, can be left to fester for a day or two or a thousand, and won't tear the worlds apart.
Somehow they don't see the need to get up, and spend the night with each touching the other, and that is comfort enough.
