She sat, motionless in the middle of the vast field, back slouched in defeat against the bark of the majestic willow tree that had oft been a source of comfort; calming her heart and resting her mind in times of despair. Today however, it emitted no comfort, the looming branches that had embraced her, and sheltered her from prying eyes when she had so desperately needed solitary solace, today seemed to have turned away. The branches no longer formed a cove in which she could hide, but had parted leaving her naked to the worlds eyes, as though to say 'you have to reap just what you sew', and she knew they were right. Wasn't nature always? She had erred to a point of irrecoverable grievance, and now it was time to face the consequences.
At the time she hadn't realised the gravity of the decision she had made. They had warned her: her mother, Luke, Christopher, her grandmother, even the townspeople, they had tried explaining she had no right to make a decision that would have such a severe effect on two ignorant lives.
The thunder in Lorelai's eyes when she had first informed her of her decision, the sheer disappointment and anger rife in her fiery stare, still haunted her today. 'You can't do this' she had said, 'it's irresponsible and selfish. I won't allow it', that was when Rory accused her of meddling, interfering in matters that were none of her concern. Just like her mother. She regretted it the moment those four words had slipped past her lips: 'you're just like grandma', but she saw no other way. Her world was thrown off its axis that day, her life no longer seemed in her control, she felt as though she was chasing after a river flowing in the wrong direction, struggling to keep up.
After her final check up before her due date, Lorelai had entered her room, a melancholy smile barely visible on her now aged face. Sitting down on the single bed she raised her hand and affectionately ran it through Rory's long locks, 'I understand this is a difficult time for you sweetheart. I know you're feeling lost, and confused' she paused, 'alone. And i think that's hindering your judgement, you're not thinking clearly; which is why I'm going to call him for you'. Rory looked up at her mother, a lone tear running down her left cheek, and gave a gave a gentle nod. Lorelai smiled patting her gently on the knee and getting up to leave the room. 'Mum' Rory's voice stopped her at the door 'You can call him, you can tell him, but if you do, I don't want you in our lives', her voice was strained as she attempted to hold back the sob threatening to break out, she hadn't wanted to say that, she tried to stop herself, but once again the words had articulated themselves before she could fathom their meaning. Their relationship had already been strained, but that day she had buried any chance of them reviving it to its glory.
