A/N: Borrowing the character of Max from the book "Golden Boy"

It was his birthday car. There was no one he'd rather have in it. Mason wasn't easy. He wasn't one of those guys that just gave it up. He'd done research, he hadn't gone far with any of his boyfriends. He'd liked Brett once upon a time. He had no problem with dating Devenford guys. Which was great. He knew he liked him, he could sense it every time he smiled at him.

The only problem was asking him out. Every time he tried his speech froze. He got out of the car and opened his door.

"Thanks for driving me home, I feel like I should tip you" Mason offered.

"I take kisses for tips" Max teased.

"Funny" Mason grinned.

He still wasn't taking him seriously. He waved him off. Thinking of ways to impress him. He was bilingual and had no problem charming the ladies, maybe it would would work on Mason as well? The next day he saw Mason and held open a door for him.

Comment es-tu étranger charmant? Max asked.

Merci d'avoir demandé Mason replied.

The French continued when Max would stop by for lunch with Two diet cokes, Two different muffins and potato chips. By asking around, he found out that the explorer was into books, manuals and encyclopedias. He would watch Mason out of the corner of his eyes when he played Lacrosse. Secretly hoping that he cheered when he scored a goal. One night he'd just finished reading his little Brother a bedtime story when he got a text from Mason.

"Thanks for the ride home" It said.

"Pleasure…..I can be more than a chauffeur you know. I have other talents" He writes.

"Really? Can I see those talent over coffee sometime?" Mason asked.

Shit. Max thought. Result!

"Calm down. Mason has coffee with everyone. There's no way that's a date" Brett said.

Max nodded, but didn't really listen to Brett. They'd never dated. He'd asked most guys on their team. Mason had had a thing for him. Brett never acted on it. It comforted him to know that Mason had never kissed him, to Max that almost made him more innocent. He didn't want to be known as the guy that ran after Brett's sloppy seconds.

"It's a friend thing. "One coffee..No strings attached...I get it. He's as cute hell though" Max admitted.

"If you say so" Brett said casually.
