First Meeting
It had been 5 years 1 month and 14 days since Jacqueline had risen from her lake. She had spent it entirely alone... Well, other than that one meeting with Christina Meadows, the Spring Princess at the transition of winter to spring. Once Chris (as she liked to be called) had realised that Jack had meant no harm she was really quite nice. She had even explained everything, immortality, how to summon Jack's element, other spirits, when she should let spring take over and when to take over from Anthony Harvest, the Autumn Emperor and to stay away from Daniel Rays, the Summer Governor because it could do the earth some serious damage. But back to the point, that had been the only contact Jack had gotten and she was getting quite lonely.
As Jacqueline walked along the small dirt path running through the forest that surrounded Burgess, she heard a quiet sniffle. It was so quiet though, she thought she had imagined it, until she heard it again. Jack stopped and stood still, the very nature around her holding its breath. She heard it a third time and her newly found maternal instincts kicked in, locking on the direction the sound came from like a bloodhound. She didn't care if the child couldn't hear her or see her, she will not just stand there and listen to children crying!
Jack sped through the woodland, dodging roots and bare branches that threatened to trip her up and slow her down. She ran faster than she ever did before, she could sense something different about this child, something not human. Jacqueline was about 100ft away from the child now, so she slowed down so she didn't scare the youth. As she broke the tree line she was surprised at what she saw before her. A young boy, about 15 years old was the one who had been crying. He had jet black hair which looked like it had been slicked back before, but was now falling limp around his face. He wore a dark cloak that looked like it had seen better days and his skin was grey.
She walked up to the boy and put her hand on his shoulder before realising what she had done. This boy was definately a spirit, she could feel the power radiating off him. However, as the boy realised he was being touched, he jerked away and scrambled back. Jack could see the boy's face now. He had sharp features and golden silver eyes, he would be scary if it weren't for the bags and redness around his eyes and the still falling tears.
"Who are you!? What do you want!?" The boy shouted, or at least tried to. His voice was hoarse and scratchy.
"I'm Jack Frost, well, Jacqueline actually but I want to know why you're crying."
"What do you care!" He spat. "I bet you're just like everyone else here!" Jack sighed, this wasn't going to be easy.
"Please, you're the second spirit I've met in 5 years and I don't like to see anyone cry. So do me a favor and at least tell me your name."
The boy mumbled something unintelligable. Jack wasn't going to let him off so lightly though.
"I don't have super powers, I can't hear you if you mumble." It was the boy's turn to sigh.
"My name is Pitch, Pitch Black." Jacqueline smiled, finally some progress.
"Nice to meet you Pitch, I'm sure we can get along just fine." Pitch looked at Jack like she was crazy, but the tears had stopped. One step at a time.
