She glared at her companions venomously. "It's not about making anybody happy. That time is past. This is about making it work."
They look at her blankly.
"Compromise," she gritted out. "And you don't have a choice in the matter."
After a few tense minutes, the blond sighed and looked away. With a small pout forming on his face, he said, "What Sasuke says has merit. But I'm team leader for this mission and he doesn't need to take charge."
There was a small snarl on the last Uchiha's lips as he slowly said his piece. "I wouldn't have a problem with you being team leader if you didn't act like a dumbass. This is a serious mission, not like weeding a garden."
The young men were studiously looking away from each other and Sakura nodded, satisfied. They were running out of time and she only had so long to work. "That's good, boys. However, as I've been Jounin the longest, I'm pulling seniority and taking command of this mission. Also, this mission is about my performance, so you two will follow my orders, or I won't be very nice in the mission report."
Naruto was staring at her with his mouth open. Sasuke's snarl had turned into blank distaste. Sakura merely looked at them both, unflinchingly.
"You can do that?"
She graced the former team leader with a smile. "Yep. Sure can."
The Kyuubi container thought about it a second then jumped in excitement and hugged her tightly, swaying from side-to-side. "My Sakura-chan is so cool! I can't wait until I can do something like that!"
Her smile growing, the kunoichi patted her friend on the back. "You'll do great, Naruto. I'm certain of it. But right now, I need you to go scout out a spot for us to stay tonight, k? I have a lot to do tonight."
He darted a little way away before throwing her a salute and happily scampering off.
Brushing off her skirt, the smile didn't leave her face, even when Sasuke looked directly at her. The distaste had left his features, but the blankness remained.
"There is no seniority rule. You tricked him."
"No, I didn't." Sakura gazed fondly in the direction Naruto had disappeared in. "He knows the rulebook inside-out and backwards now. I just gave him an out to use if he wanted."
"How will that go in the mission report?"
Sakura's gaze turned hard and her smile became slightly unpleasant. "As team leader, Naruto assigned me to write the mission report. It's a good choice as I will be in the best position to see all parts of the plan come together."
"Aa."
There was no more said between the two and soon Naruto returned, happily and proudly announcing a spot not far away that would be perfect for the three of them.
