Persephone Arc was a sheltered girl. She wasn't particularly pretty and she wasn't particularly smart, she was just her. Her short blonde hair hung over one shoulder in a braid and her green eyes watched the world in interest. She wore a white toga tied by a pin with a red sash over it that tied around her waist, heavy plate armor that she wore below the sash jingled noisily whenever she moved and simple sandals adorned her feet. She was tall for a twelve year old, much taller then the others in her grade. If it wasn't for her flat chest that refused to grow, she could be confused for a teenager. Maybe if she was a teenager she'd get a little bit more respect.

She glared at her father in defiance "Dad, I want to go to Signal" she whined

Jaune met his daughters glare his arms crossed and his face drawn into a stubborn mask "For the last time Persephone no, it's to dangerous" he replied in his i'm-putting-foot-down tone

Persephone's face began to go red, why was he so impossible to reason with? "Dad i'm almost thirteen, you can't keep treating me like a little kid" she argued

Jaune didn't flinch, he was used to her daughters whining "As long you live under my roof you obey my rules and I say your not going to Signal." his voice raised in frustration

Persephone stamped her foot in anger. She let out a frustrated screech and stormed out out of the kitchen "You can't keep me here!" she cried, passing her mother.

Pyrrha watched her daughter leave before turning to Jaune who sat on a kitchen chair with an exhausted sigh. She placed a hand on his shoulder "Jaune, can't you just let her try out Signal?" she asked gently

Jaune shook his head "No, I almost lost you to those wretched academies, i'm not going to lose her to." He said stubbornly

Pyrrha stared at him with knowing eyes. In many respects Jaune was a great father, attentive, loving and supportive but his unending seed of hated for the hunstmen academies starting the night of Beacons attack.

He had begged her not to go to the tower, to stay with him so they could fight together but she refused. She went up anyway.

Jaune never knew why but as he flew through the air in that suffocating locker it almost didn't matter. All he cared about was getting her back.

He'd called Weiss, pleaded with her.

"Please, you have to save Pyrrha" He begged

But she refused to listen, refused to help him. He threw his scroll in rage hearing it break on the pavement. Why wouldn't she just listen!?

To this day Jaune never learned how Pyrrha survived, he had gotten a call from Ruby, she had found Pyrrha half-dead on top of the tower.

The rest was a blur. He remembered running to Pyrrha who had been brought to an airship medical wing. She was weak and frail, he collapsed at her bedside begging her to be okay.

When Pyrrha opened her eyes he swore to protect her and to never let anyone he loved be involved with the huntsmen academies again.

Pyrrha opened the door to her daughters room. She was curled up on her bed with her knees under her chin, her eyes were red. She sat on the edge of her bed, offering her a smile but Persephone refused to meet her eye.

"Why won't he just let me go?" she sobbed "Does he think i'm not good enough?"

Pyrrha placed her hand on her arm "No, he just doesn't want you to get hurt" she offered gently

Persephone shook her head "He doesn't think I can do anything" she mumbled

Pyrrha's heart broke to see her daughter so insecure, so caged. She wrapped her arms around her and pulled her close.

Jaune watched his family from the doorway, a new found resolve burned into his eyes. He would keep Persephone safe even if she hated him for it.
