A/N

Hey guys. So this is my first published fanfic and I'm not even going to pretend I know what I'm doing. I would love some constructive criticism and/or tips. Also there will probably be some mistakes because I don't have a beta reader (hint, hint). Thanks guys for reading.

Disclaimer: Don't own anything except the plot and possibly Ellenwen. (Would I? Tolkien originally came up with the idea that Aragorn had daughters, so don't know on that one.)

Elven words

Vede- uncle

Elessar- name given to Aragorn when he became king; means elf stone

ada- dad

penneth- young one

Ellenwen ascended the stairs of the tower of Minas Tirith, letting the black velvet of her dress skim the stairs. The empty, quiet corridors reflected the emptiness of her heart. She stopped and looked out of one of the tower's narrow slits and took in the black banners that hung everywhere. She stopped and let a single tear slip down her cheek. The king Elessar was gone, her father... But not only her father but her elven mother was also fading. She was going to lose her parents. She suddenly straightened remembering the task she set out to complete. She had lost her father and was losing her mother, but there was one she could not add to her heart. She could not lose all of them.

Coming to the top room where the guards had directed her,she hesitated before pushing the door open slightly. Sitting in the window on the opposite wall from the door was the fair haired elf who she had been seeking. He was sitting precariously on the edge with one knee drawn up to his chest and the other dangling out of the tower above the city streets hundreds of feet below them. If it had been anyone else she would have been worried but she had seen him climb trees easily as tall as the tower and never once slip, unless of course her ada provoked it but even rarely then.

Steeling her resolve and entering the room slightly she called softly to the elf. "Uncle?" When he did not acknowledge her presence or even start she became worried. "Uncle Legolas?!" She called all but running and throwing herself down in front of the window on her knees and grabbing his hand. Her mother was fading and her father ad gone to Mandos' Halls, she could not also lose her claimed uncle.

"Sidh, penneth. I am fine." He said, smiling sadly down at the young princess. "Merely thinking."

"I am sorry, I should not have scared," She said relaxing slightly.

"There is nothing to forgive Ellenwen. But do not fear I do not plan on leaving anytime soon." The last he said looking back out to the gathering people below them.

Ellenwen stood looking out the window past her uncle. "They will expect us soon." She said simply.

"Ai, then it is best we go." He said climbing from the window that had become his perch.

Still latched onto his hand she whispered, "I miss ada." She didn't understand it, but she felt she could always open up around him and become almost a child again.

"He will be missed by many, penneth, but we cannot let the past consume us. Gondor will go on with Eldarion as it's king and we must stand by him as best we may and live with the thought that a day may come when we see your parents again."

She smiled at his wise words. "Then come uncle let us put the past behind us." And with that they walked to the streets below with their hearts comforted by the presence of the other.
