Family is like coffee- it will be exactly how you make it. You can't leave the sugar out and expect it to be sweet.

Looking upon himself now, Rumple had to wonder if perhaps he liked his coffee cold and bitter. He laughed derisively into his styrofoam cup as he sipped at his coffee. Of coarse he'd rather have tea from a certain chipped cup, but this shop only gave coffee to the homeless in the mornings. But beggars can't be choosers and he'd almost missed getting a cup at all.

The 'real' world was a much colder place than even the enchanted forest had been. It was like walking through a pack of wolves, while covering the bits of your woolly coat that you couldn't hide from sight.

And all the technology made his head spin. Sure, Storybrooke had gadgets and electricity but what he'd witnessed in the short time he'd been banished made Storybrooke seem as though it was still in the dark ages.

Gold rubbed his hand over his face and sighed. Even thinking of the 'dark ages' made his heart twinge and conjure up images of his Belle. His fingers caught as it moved over his beard, quite a ways away from being stubble anymore.

Would Belle turn away in disgust if she saw him now?

He probably still looked better than he had in the enchanted forest- both before and after becoming the Dark One. Though he hadn't had the chance to bath yet. And he ached- his heart, his leg, his pride...

Before he could catch himself he was crying into his cup of coffee. And as a true testament of the coldness of the world no one even glanced at him twice.

"What am I to do, Belle?" he whispered, rubbing his tears away with a cold hand.

In all honesty he should be angry at Belle for banishing him, but he couldn't quite find it in him to be angry. He needed her, especially now that his heart was turning into a pumping piece of coal. Maybe she was just acting in his best interest?

He had to find a way to get back to her. He crushed the styrofoam in his fist and snarled at no one in particular as he rose to his feet. It was time that he found the sea witch and Lady dog-breath.
