Booth walked into the diner with one of his old army buddies. He didn't know that Bones was sitting at the counter seat directly in front of the table he chose to sit at. She didn't want to listen in. It was by mistake.
"So, Booth, How has your love life been? Are you with anyone?" His army friend asked. Bones wanted to know the answer, so she listened in to the conversation.
"Well, yes and no. Booth reluctantly replied. "I'm head-over-heels, we're talking madly in love with this girl, but I'm almost positive the feelings aren't mutual." He said. Wow. Bones thought to herself. That is one lucky woman.
"Well, have you asked her out yet?" His friend asked, trying no t to meddle. He just wanted some answers.
"No. I know she'll say no. I'm too afraid of rejection." Booth answered quickly.
"But if you are as 'madly in love with her' as you say, why don't you just ask her out, take a chance?"His friend asked. W ow, this guy has a point. Bones thought to herself.
"We're colleagues. She's a good friend of mine. I don't want to mess that up."Booth said sadly. He knew that was the sad truth. Bones was, of course, oblivious that Booth was talking about her. Peyton Perotta. Was the name that immediately submerged into Bones' head. It was replaying in her head like a broken record. Peyton Perotta. Peyton Perotta, Peyton Perotta. She wanted to smack Booth right then, but she knew there was a small chance the mystery woman was Angela, Cam, or another female FBI agent.
"Well is she pretty?" His army friend asked.
"Yeah, she's pretty. No, she's beautiful." Booth said. Bones immediately knew it was Perotta. God. He's too good for me. I don't have a chance. Its unfair. She's an upperclass snob that looks like a playboy bunny with all that pink. Pink lipstick, pink dresses, pink shirts. She envied her, because Booth loved her. Bones thought to herself.
"Well do you work with this 'beautiful' woman?" His friend asked him.
"When I am lucky." Booth said. He was happy he could finally tell someone how he felt. Oh God. I have hated Agent Perotta ever since Booth was accused of murdering a hockey player. Bones silently said to herself.
"So what's this mystery woman's name?" Booths friend asked, Bones wanted to know, too.
"Doctor Temperance Brennan." He said. WHAT?!?! Had Bones really heard what she thought she heard?! Did he really just say my name?! Bones thought as she turned around to speak for the very first time. "Hello Booth."
"Who's the hottie?" Booths' sniper friend asked quietly.
"Doctor. Temperance. Brennan." Booth whispered quietly through his teeth.
"Oh My God." his friend said.
"Bones, did you hear all that?!" Booth asked frantically, hoping she hadn't.
"Yes. Every word." Bones replied.
"Damn it." Booth cursed under his breath. Bones launched herself into his lap.
"Hey, calm down. I have to say something." Bones said.
"What?" Booth asked.
"I love you, too." She said. The interlocked lips and Booth began to nibble on Bones' lower lip. "Not here." Bones said. "Come to my apartment. Booth liked that.
"Okay, bye Brian!" Booth said as he grabbed his jacket, walked to his car, and drove to Bones' apartment.
