Hi everyone, this is an essay I wrote for school, I got an A but I'd appreciate any feedback you'd be willing to give, as long as it's constructive criticism.
Characters: Santana Lopez, Quinn Fabray, Sue Sylvester
She gave me a key.
It was hot. Far too hot.
It was also my first day of my last year of middle school.
"It's hot" My best friend, Quinn, said matter-of-factly.
"I know." I replied simply, and that, was that. It was so hot that speech seemed like an impossible effort and so, very few people did it. People, who weren't as lazy as Quinn and I.
I remember the bell rang, eliciting a chorus of groans from my fellow class mates. We were a small class, well, small compared to the other classes in our relatively small school – Yes; it was all so very small back then.
We crept to our seats at a snail's pace, melting into the uncomfortable plastic chairs, and waited for our very first teacher of that year.
Five very long minutes ticked by before the dragon entered her den. She was, by all means, a very small woman. She had a messy grey mop of hair perched upon her head, She was wearing a scarlet red tracksuit and she was thin, and frail looking. However, she had a certain glint in her eyes. A dangerous glint, a glint, which told us all that this woman, as small and silly looking as she was, was not to be underestimated.
This assumption was proven correct as our first lesson progressed. I remember very clearly, that this woman, whose name we later learned was Ms. Sylvester, had quite a pair of lungs on her, as she bellowed and roared at the slightest misbehaviour. I suppose it must have been the heat making her seem like a grizzly bear.
She handed us each a book. This book - its title currently escapes me- wasn't easy to read at all by my standards (which if I'm being honest, weren't too high back then.) She stood us each up and told us to read from the book. When my turn came I read from the perplexing book dutifully and sat down with a smug scoff at reading relatively clearly.
When the end of the class rolled by and I was close to the door, my freedom at that moment was ripped away by Ms. Sylvester's snappish and harsh voice.
"Ms. Lopez!" She called, halting my advances and bringing a grimace to my features.
"Yes ma'am?" I asked in a bit of a sulk at watching Quinn saunter off out the door with a smirk that can only be described as sadistic in nature.
"You have potential." The woman stated, causing my young self to furrow my brows in confusion.
"Ma'am?" I blathered unintelligently.
"I won't be going easy on you." She snapped and waved a dismissive hand towards me. I didn't know it then but a door was unlocked, a door to a passion for reading, writing, escaping into other worlds and who would be the one to give me the key? Ms. Sylvester. But, not before making my life hell for one year.
Please please please review and give feedback.
Love you all.
