"We can't ask Hannah Abbott," Ron said.
He and Harry were sat by the common room fire, crossing out the names of girls they'd already asked to the ball.
"Or Susan Bones. She was asked three days ago," Harry pointed out.
The Yule Ball was in a few days. Both Harry and Ron had no one to go with. Harry had been hoping to ask Cho Chang, a pretty Ravenclaw girl, but every time he got near her all of the girls around her would start to giggle. It was becoming annoying.
"We have four girls we haven't asked yet," Ron said stifling a yawn as he looked over at Harry.
"Who are they?" Harry asked.
Ron looked at him, then said, "Hermione, those Patil twins, Fleur, and Katie."
Harry looked over at Fred and George, who'd just entered the common room and were approaching their table.
"Who are you going to the ball with?" Harry asked.
George sat next to Harry while Fred sat beside Ron.
"I'm going with Angelina Johnson," Fred boasted.
"You are?" Ron moaned enviously. He slumped back on the sofa.
"Yeah watch." Fred turned and shouted. "Oy! Angelina!"
Angelina, who'd been chatting with Alicia, turned and yelled back, "yeah!?"
"Do you want to go to the ball with me!?"
"Sure!" And she turned back to her friend.
"See, little bro., easy as pie," Fred said. He got up and left. Just as they both vanished did Hermione come in the common room looking happy.
"What are you so happy about?" Ron said begrudgingly.
"No reason," Hermione said.
"Good," said Ron, sitting up, "I want to ask you something."
"What?"
"Do you want t - ?"
"No," Hermione cut him off before he could finish his sentence.
"Why not?" Ron demanded.
"I'm going with someone else," Hermione said.
"Who!?" Ron yelled before she vanished.
But Hermione didn't answer. Ron crossed out Hermione's name and went to bed. Harry right behind him.
