Law's eyelids made the slightest movements, Luffy noted, his lips quivering, uttering short grunts and incomprehensible sounds. A sharp intake of breath now and then, and a constant wrinkle between his brows. Luffy frowned. After Dressrosa, anyone would have nightmares… Luffy heaved a tired sigh, taking a glimpse at the man leaning into him. He could feel Law's warm body tremble against his own, could feel Law's warm breath through his clothes. Not even his presence seemed to give Law a sense of security, not even Luffy could keep his nightmares away.
Luffy gave him a nudge with his shoulder, and Law's body tensed. "Luffy?" The dark circles under his eyes seemed to stand out even more in contrast with the white and grey of his eyes.
"I'm here," he muttered softly. "You were having a nightmare."
Law pushes himself off Luffy, into a sitting position and rubs his eyes with his fingers, sighing. "Sorry, I…." he paused midsentence, his eyes widening as he gazed at his fingertips wet with tears. "Shit…" he breathed, clearly bothered by them. He grabbed the hem of his shirt and rubbed his cheeks. "Sorry," he repeated in a low voice.
"It's okay," Luffy shot him a crooked smile. "No one needs to know," he declared with an unusually serious expression.
Law's lips quirked up into a small grateful smile and gave him a brief nod. "Do you have them too?"
Luffy pondered lying for a second. "Yes," he admitted. He was unsure whether to continue or not but he felt it was important to tell Law. "About you," he said his voice barely audible. "About Ace," he admitted almost a full minute later, feeling the unpleasant beginning of a knot on his stomach. The nightmares were mostly about Ace, about the entire Marineford battle. He was constantly relieving it in his nightmares, constantly failing to save Ace…
Law's fingers brushed Luffy's, clumsily grabbing onto a few in a bit of an awkward position. Luffy smiled at him as he glanced up at Luffy. It was still a bit hard for Law… It wasn't the act of touching itself, but the act of comforting him, of showing him how he felt. The words still failed him most of the times, but Luffy wasn't exactly great with words either. Luffy's smile widened at the thought of Law with him, the thought of them together.
He pulled his fingers free from Law's to properly intertwine them. The act made Law's eyes widen, a bit frightened at the gesture at first but then reassured. He still wasn't used to trusting people either. "Come on," Luffy said rising to his feet, pulling Law along with him. "Let's go to bed."
I wanted to have written something fluffy before Valentine's day but here it is now. I rarely write LawLu but I really love it. Enjoy, Feedback is appreciated.
