... She woke up a few hours later. Her mom was asleep in the chair beside her bed. The clock on the wall read 4 o'clock. The cranes were all on the ceiling and table. She thought she could make a few more while her mother slept. She need about 600 more and her wish to be well would come true. After making twenty-seven her mom woke up.
"Do you need some help dear?" She asked her.
"Lots thank you," Sadako replied weakly.
She was still tired. She was always tired. But all she wanted to do was get up and run.
Three weeks passed and she was still in the hospital. Her friends came everyday to bring homework and cranes. After the next week she had 900 in her room. Just a few more days she thought thats all I need.
She worked hard. Then one Monday afternoon her father came to visit.
"Some guys at work made these for you," he said.
"Thank you," she said as she counted them, "Thats 999 all I need is one more."
"Then what are you waiting for?" her dad asked.
She got a piece of scrap paper and folded it. Sadako now had all 1000 she needed. She was going to get better!
"Its beautiful," her dad said.
Then her mom walked in.
"Mom!" Sadako yelled,"Number 1000!"
Weeks later she was feeling much better. The doctors said she may even get better! She was going to run again. She was going to live.
When she was released her mom decorated the house with her cranes. They were so pretty.
Sadako returned to school. She told her friends how awful the hospital is and they told her how lucky she is to be alive...
