This scene takes place right after the episode in which Tuvok, under the
influence of subliminal orders from a Bajoran terrorist, mindmelds with the
Maquis on the ship and causes them to mutiny. Chakotay assumes the role of
captain and locks Janeway in the brig. (I can't believe that I don't
remember the name of the episode).
I found this "missing scene", that I had written a while ago, on an old disk. I hope you understand it.
Under the Influence By The Inner Genie
"May I sit here?" he asked, holding his lunch tray to one side.
She looked up at him, slightly startled. She immediately let her mask slip back into place but not before he saw her reaction.
He straightened up, ready to retreat, when she nodded her head and said, "Sure, have a seat.Captain."
Chakotay hesitated as he set down his tray.
"Kathryn," he said in exasperation. "Please don't be that way. I said I was sorry. Besides, I was acting under a mindmeld suggestion."
He sat down beside her and started to eat his food. As he lifted the spoon to his lips, his eyes caught her staring at him with a cautious, closed look.
He set his spoon down, hard, on the table and leaned back in his chair.
"Okay," he signed, "let's get this out in the open. You don't trust me anymore, do you?"
He couldn't believe it! She actually hesitated. She looked down and then back up. Leaning her head to one side and biting her bottom lip she said slowly, "I do trust you, Chakotay. I guess.I guess I was just surprised that you could turn against me so easily. After all we've been through together, I thought that loyalty and friendship would counteract the mindmeld."
Chakotay was lost in thought for a moment and then he turned to her and said intensely, "A month ago, if you had been totally assimilated by the Borg, do you think that, given our loyalty and friendship, you would have hesitated to assimilate me?"
Now it was Kathryn's turn to look away in thought.
A familiar small smile appeared on her face and she turned back to look at him.
"Point taken."
She laughed, the awkwardness between them dissolving away as she poked him in the ribs with her elbow, "You would have been the first one on my list."
