"Rue!" I screamed as I jolted out of bed. I screamed reliving seeing the spear enter her stomach. " Rue! Rue, come back! Rue!" I screamed tears streaming down my face. " Rue" I repeated over and over. I closed my eyes trying to escape this nightmare.
Peeta ran in the room. "Katniss you okay?"
"The spear it…it…..was" I just myself of not wanting to say more. Peeta sat across from me on the bed. I leaned into his chest, hiding my tear-streaked face. He held me, smoothing my hair.
"Its okay, Katniss, It's okay. Your safe" he assures me. Even if we are at the Capitol and about to face our deaths, again, I believe him.
Moments like these, make me realize I do love Peeta. I love him as much as the Capitol believes I love him. Moments like these, make me realize he loves me too.
"Peeta you realize we are going to be in the arena again." I said sitting up, wiping my tears that kept coming. "We are going to make allies and watch them die" I said, thinking of Rue.
" I realize it. But I honestly think I won't last that long" he said attempting humor. I cried harder. "Don't say that, I need you here. Peeta I need you in my life, more than anybody. I need you." I said, knowing I mean my words.
"You're okay. You're safe with me, you're safe with me" he said once I leaning into his chest again. "Peeta I love you" I whisper into his chest.
" I love you too" he said holding me tight. " I love you too"
He let me go and I lay down on the bed. I heard him move. "Peeta don't leave me, please" I say.
He lies down next to me, wrapping his hands around my waist. "I will never leave you" he whispers to me.
With him to protect me, his arms around me, I got to sleep safe and sound.
