Extended ending to Season 5, ep. 3 – Hostage Harts
Just a little conversation I feel the Harts would have had after Jonathan was held hostage.
Asterisks mark original last two lines of the show.
**"Aww, not tonight Josephine."
**"Wanna bet?"
Jennifer leaned in and gave Jonathan a quick kiss. "I bet I can change your mind." A slow smile spread across Jonathan's face.
"Darling, I have no doubt." She got up from the couch and held out her left hand. Jonathan took it with his right, and they walked hand in hand upstairs.
Jennifer was about to climb into bed when Jonathan called to her from their dressing area.
"Darling, can you help me with this?" She headed back and saw Jonathan struggling with gauze and tape.
"Here. Let me." Jennifer scooted onto the counter in front of him. She checked his wound first, then got the new gauze in place and taped it securely. "All better." Suddenly, her face crumpled and she placed her forehead against his chest and wept. Jonathan held her, stroking her hair, trying to calm her with soft words.
"Shhh, Darling, it's all right." He held her face between his hands and wiped her tears with his thumbs. She hiccupped slightly.
"Oh, Jonathan, you have no idea how terrified I was when I saw you get shot. I tried to tell myself that you didn't get hit, that the bullet missed you, but after everyone left the scene and I was there alone, I checked the pavement. Your blood was there, on my fingertips, and I couldn't get to you. I thought I'd lost you." Jonathan placed a gentle kiss on her lips and led her to bed. They were propped up a bit on pillows, and she snuggled into his side, mindful of his injury. "I've never felt more helpless in my life." He held her as tightly as he could with his left arm, while his right hand stroked her face. He tilted her chin up so he could look into her eyes.
"Inspector Michelot told me what you said outside the gallery."
"What I said…?"
"He wasn't going to let you come in as the negotiator because he didn't want to risk a civilian's life." Jennifer smiled at her husband.
"And I told him that my whole life was inside." She kissed him gently.
"Jennifer, my heart dropped when Michelot said Madame Hart was coming in. My hands were tied, literally, and I knew that if they decided to keep you too, there was nothing I could do about it. Darling, why did you take that risk?" She kissed him again.
"I would risk everything for you. I had to make sure you were all right. There was no way they were going to let a police officer in there, and I guess part of me was hoping they would take me too."
"Why?" The shock on his face made her smile.
"Darling, we are always better when we're together." She laughed a little. "It isn't like we haven't been in tough spots before, but we manage to get out of them, because we're a team." He kissed her this time.
"We are the best team." They snuggled for a few minutes before a slow, seductive smile stole across Jonathan's face. "I'm not usually one to give up a bet, but I do suppose I owe you for saving my life." Jennifer shifted and pillowed her chin on Jonathan's chest.
"Oh, and just how do you plan to pay up?"
"By letting you change my mind." Their lips met in a sensuous kiss before Jennifer reached over and turned out the light for the night.
