Sunshine: Magnus/Alec (TMI)

To Magnus, Alec was like a radiant beam of sunshine, both literally and metaphorically. Alec was like sunshine because like the sun rose each morning, marking a new start, Alec was a new chapter of his life. He had spent so much time sealing off the part of his heart that used to care for the Shadowhunters. Because the more you cared, the vulnerable you became, both physically and emotionally. And the more vulnerable you were, the more easily and deeply you got hurt. For someone like him, who lived forever, the pain of losing someone you cared for, as many said, dulled with time, but it never left him at all. Each day was a reminder of what he used to have and those who had left him behind, he who remained eternally young for all of time. The void, that empty space, where he carefully hid away, was always there.

He had broken his rule for Alec the moment he set eyes on him. Not because of his resemblance to Will Herondale with those startling blue eyes, but because there was something about Alec that made him feel alive and hopeful again. Like he could step out from the shadows and live life properly. He couldn't pinpoint what that was, and he settled for the explanation that it was just Alec himself who was special.

Alec was like sunshine not because he was always smiling or because he was optimistic, but because everything- every word, every action, every silly gesture-he did made Magnus smile and all those would eventually become memories he would hold dear even in a hundred years' time.

But to Alec, Magnus was the sunshine, the only bright spot in his otherwise uninteresting life. Magnus was there when he was hurt; he was there when he watched Jace fall in love with Clary and when his family was falling apart after Max's death. He was Alec's sun, all that flamboyance, glitter and everything shiny. That was who Magnus was.

And they say, when the sun shines, though fleetingly, all would be good.
