Just a little idea I had.
It's been two years.
Two freaking years.
He promised her he'd come back, that he'd be back to hold her, kiss her, and make her feel like the most special girl in the world.
Two years later, and nothing's happened. She remembers that day like it was her own birth.
Flashback:
Humming a garbled tune contentedly, she scans the quaint little coffee shop in search of a particular person. Seeing no one, she looks expectantly to her phone, hoping to find a text or missed call or just something that would signify he's not coming.
Maybe a "Hi, so sorry, can't make it today!" or "Will be a little late today" or even, as a last resort that she is willing to accept. "not coming". With horrible punctuation AND capitalization, something anyone that kind of knows her should know she hates.
But he wouldn't know, would he. He wouldn't know, because he's never actually had a conversation with her.
She distinctly recalls a particularly one-sided text conversation she had with him.
December 28, 2013, 4:53 pm: "Hi. It's Ally. This is the girl you gave your number to in the coffee shop today. At least I hope this is your number. Anyway, if you get this, please text me back."
January 7th, 2014, 6:24 pm: Hello, it's Ally again. You haven't replied, and I don't mean to be clingy, but um, did you want to meet or something?
December 28, 2014, 12;21 pm Merry Christmas! I'm starting to think that you don't really want to talk, but if you do, here's another chance.
Finally, FINALLY, he responded.
December 29th, 2014, 3:43 pm: hey sure lets meet tomorrow there at 10
Ally reaches there exactly at 10, ordered a strawberry frappuccino, and sits down in her favorite booth. After about an hour, she figures he isn't coming, and leaves, but not before sending a quick text, the chilly winter air almost as cold a welcoming as him standing her up.
December 28, 2015, 11:02 am: Hey. Coffee tomorrow at 10?
She doesn't even mention that he completely stood her up. After all, she does believe in second chances (and maybe thirds or fourths) and maybe sending it from their "sacred meeting place" will guarantee him to come?
Amazingly, she receives a reply within minutes.
December 28, 2015, 11:04 am: great cya
The next morning, she waltzes in to the shop, spirits high and hopes low. Following almost a normal routine at this point, she leaves after only 15 minutes.
He's not here.
Of course.
She can wait another year.
Fin.
My first one! Completely open to feedback, thanks for reading it really means a lot
