Block the punch up and to the left with your left arm. Strike through the opening with your right arm, palm meeting the vampire nose and mashing it.

Jump swiftly backward to avoid the other vampire's kick. Push his leg up. Dodge the other leg he kicks with as he falls. Segue from a dodge to a spin, dropping into a crouch. Slam your leg into the back of the knee of the vampire whose nose you mashed, hard enough to take him down. Leap toward the first vampire and slide your stake underneath the inverted V off his ribs, into his heart. Smash another stake through the ribs of the one you tore the feet out from under, before the dust cloud from the first has time to settle from the air. Rise. Continue home.

Greet your mother at the front door. "Hi, Mom."

"Hi, honey. How was the Bronze?"

Lie. "fine."

"Did you have fun?"

The crack of bone against your palm. The slam of arm to arm diverting a blow upwards. "I danced."

"That can be fun. Cute boys?"

Yellow glowing eyes, revealing the demons within. Sharp teeth flashing in the moonlight. Distorted faces coming forth to show predatory natures. Howls of agony as blows and kicks maim them. "Not really."

"That doesn't sound good."

Vampire dust floating in the moonlight, each mote someone's lover, parent, child who would not die leeched of blood.

"It was great. Sometimes it's not the dance, or the dancers. Sometimes, it's the song."

"Um, yeah. G'night, honey."

"'night, Mom."

Go to bed. Slay tomorrow.

The End
