Astrid always loved a flight in the morning after working out.

It both exhilarated her and gave her some peace of mind.

Stormfly likewise was always up for it. Matching Astrid in her desire to be the best. To be the greatest of them all. They were both naturally competitive.

There was a time Astrid would never have imagined herself in this position.

A time when dragons were the enemy.

She had been so blind as a child. Believed every word fed to her by the adults in her life and as a naturally loyal person, she had clung to the Viking way with all her might. Never once questioned anything.

Not until she was literally kidnapped by a noodle and his Night Fury and thrown onto a tree, clinging to the branch for her dear life.

That's when she realized her life would never be the same.

There was a whole new world out there.

Berk was almost invisible in comparison.

Astrid remembers touching a cloud for the first time and then laughing in disbelief. She couldn't compute what was happening and where she was.

And since that fateful eventful, her whole life changed dramatically.

What she had never thought possible, suddenly became possible. It was unreal.

To this day Astrid couldn't help but mull over it.

What would have happened had she remained ignorant to the truth. Would she still have been alive at this moment, and better yet, would she have ever known what true happiness felt like?

It sometimes scared her to dwell over the 'what ifs' but also made her feel all the more grateful for where she was standing today.

Astrid leaned back on the saddle as Stormfly glided through the skies, closing her eyes and smiling to herself because she was the luckiest girl in the world.
