Ok, this was just a little piece of writing I had written a while ago and rediscovered. I have this app on my iPod with a bunch of random House quotes, and I found this one. I dunno what episode (or even what season) it's from. I might continue this… Maybe. Probably not. Please review. Constructive criticism greatly appreciated.

"Why do you think the world will end in chaos and destruction if you're not there to save it?"

The question bounced around in his head as he lay in the dark, staring at a ceiling he could barely see. House had asked him things like that before, but this time was different for some reason. Usually, House's comments didn't register on an emotional level; usually he deflected, and then walked away unaffected and no worse for the wear. But when he stopped to think about it, House was right. He knew about his problems with neediness and the constant craving to be prepared for anything and everything. He knew about this, too; his Superman complex, as he was calling it in his head, he just hadn't addressed it yet.

He wasn't quite sure what to do with it. He knew he would probably end up doing what he always did; acknowledge it, try to fix it half-heartedly, fail, and give up. Part of him told him to do just that. Another part said he needed to really work at this and try to better himself. Yet another voice, the loudest of the three, told him that he was pathetic, stupid and imperfect like the rest of the world, and to just give up and move on.

That sounded like something House would say. Did he really want to listen to him? There was really no way not to, he realized. By doing something about his problem, he was acknowledging that he had one, and by acknowledging that he had one, he was telling House that he was right. Again. But by completely ignoring it, he was still doing what House told him to do. Wait, no he wasn't. That was his thought, wasn't it?

He was thinking in circles again. He sighed deeply, rolling over. This was probably exactly what House knew would happen. Or maybe he was really asking Wilson a genuine question. Or, more likely, he was just being House. And he was being Wilson, over thinking everything once again and letting House's snide little comments get to him.
