The Feeling of a Broken Heart

Lotso peered through the window sill, not believing what he had just seen. Daisy had gotten a new toy. Daisy had forgotten about him. Daisy had replaced him.

This couldn't be happening; his eyes must be playing tricks on him. Lotso looked again, and there she was. Daisy was playing with her new toy; she was playing with his replacement. They were happy together. They were happy without him. He had no place here anymore. He was nothing more than an outsider in the place that he had once called home.

How could this be happening? He and Daisy were inseparable. They had a special connection. Day after day, he had been the first thing from the toy box that she had grabbed each morning, a grin on her face as she held his fuzzy pink body close to her chest. They had spent hour after hour playing. They had done everything together.

But that was over now. Daisy wasn't his friend or owner anymore. Memories of the times they had spent together were what had carried Lotso through the long and tiresome journey back to Daisy's house. They had many a time made him smile. They were nothing now, though. They were only a bitter reminder of what had been.

How could she forget him like this? He had always been there for her. Always, whether it was a being hugged while she cried or playing games outside on sunny afternoons. She had replaced him. He felt sick to his stuffed stomach. If she could get over losing him and replace him so easily, he obviously didn't mean much of anything to her.

His world had been shattered. He wanted to scream at the top of his lungs and hide in the corner and cry and pretend it wasn't happening all at once. He felt sad, helpless. He had no control over Daisy's actions, so he decided to control those of his companions.

"She replaced us!" he said gruffly to Big Baby and Chuckles, "Let's go!"

"She replaced you," Chuckles objected.

"She replaced us!" Lotso shouted in a manner that was not to be argued with, "C'mon!"

They walked away from the house, getting soaked from the rain. Lotso shivered. There was no one to play with or care about him anymore. That was all gone. His best friend in the world had turned her back on him; Daisy had found someone to take his place. As they traversed through the stormy weather, he thought to himself, now I know what a broken heart feels like.
